The Hold Up 9/26: Ranking the Top 100 Relievers for Holds Every Thursday
+ Ranking baseball's top setup options for the 2024 season. With only four days left in the MLB season (five if you include the Braves/Mets marathon on Monday), there’s not much you can do at this point if your fantasy season is still on going. If you strictly need holds, adding Braves or Mets relievers makes sense with them having 5 games left. For all other teams with 3 or 4 games left, the only team I’d probably avoid are the Rockies.
The Hold Up 9/19: Ranking the Top 100 Relievers for Holds Every Thursday
I want to lead this talking about two unheralded relievers currently on American League teams fighting for a playoff spot, with both of these guys stepping into high leverage roles due to a rash of injuries to their respective bullpens. Collin Snider has become the top set up option for the Mariners and rightfully so as he holds a 1.15 ERA (2.90 SIERA), and 23.2% K-BB rate over his past 31.1 IP dating back to early July.
Top 100 Relievers for Save+Hold Leagues: 9/13
+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Brennan Bernardino, Emmanuel Clase, Hunter Gaddis, Tyler Kinley, David Robertson, Troy Taylor, Devin Williams and Kirby Yates all had three SV+HLDs this past week. Bernadino was placed on the IL this week and will miss the remainder of the season with an elbow injury. Clase and Gaddis keep cruising in the Guardians bullpen with Clase a regular on this list.
The Hold Up 9/12: Ranking the Top 100 Relievers for Holds Every Thursday
Angel Chivilli ranks SECOND amongst relievers post All-Star break with a 23% SwStr rate behind only Josh Hader, and there definitely seems like there could be some sustainability to this as it comes with 29.6% ZContact – OSwing (also 2nd behind Hader) and 35.7% CSW rates (top 10). That being said, it’s even more surprising to see him hold just a 21.6% K rate with this swing and miss ability, plus Stuff+ and PLV are not big fans either.
Brewers rookie pitcher facing murky role upon imminent return from injury
DL Hall is set to return from a knee injury, but what will his role be? By Dan Kieffer | 1:50 PM CDT Since the acquisition of DL Hall prior to the season expectations have been very high. He was a consensus top pitching prospect while in the Orioles organization who had not been given a full opportunity in the major leagues as a starter. Hall did find success however, late in 2023 pitching out of the bullpen for Baltimore, to a tune of a 3.26 ERA.
Brewers' new addition is creating buzz among MLB scouts
DL Hall is opening some eyes at Brewers spring training By William Moxon | 6:57 PM CST When the Milwaukee Brewers traded former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles, many felt the package they received in return was of significantly less value than expected and raised question marks around the team's direction. Pitcher D.L. Hall and infielder Joey Ortiz were exchanged for Burnes and this did leave many fans feeling they could have got more for the pitcher's services.

MLB DFS Playbook August 26: Top Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel
Welcome to Saturday’s MLB DFS Playbook! Yesterday couldn’t have been better for the Seattle Mariners as they launched themselves into first place, securing the win against the Kansas City Royals while the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers both lost. They will look to keep up that momentum with another win this afternoon, but we are focused on the games happening a few hours later with an 8-game main slate starting at 7:05 PM EST on both DraftKings and FanDuel.
Fantasy Baseball Player Spotlight: A Launch Angle Adjustment Will Make Ke'Bryan Hayes a 2022 Fantasy Cheat Code
Late in the week as part of our fantasy baseball Player Spotlight Series, I break down the third baseman to help you manage your fantasy baseball lineups. Today, we look at a player that many consider being the future of the Pittsburgh Pirates — Ke’Bryan Hayes. He is popular among fantasy baseball debates as to whether he has what it takes to be a stud third baseman in MLB. Is he a sell high trade candidate or a player that you hold on to as an anchor to your infield?
Fantasy Baseball May 17 Round Up; Trevor Story and Tony Gonsolin Increasing Their Fantasy Baseball Trade Value
Fantasy baseball players know the month of May is a crucial time. You’ve given your players a little more than a month to show you what they’re about and now you need to take stock in your team. Is the fantasy baseball waiver wire cutting it for you? Are free agent pickups what you need or do you need to start exploring fantasy baseball trades?
2022 Fantasy Baseball Player Spotlight: Reid Detmers Value Following No-Hitter
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Reid Detmers dominated MLB headlines earlier this week when he tossed a no-hitter on Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. Naturally, everyone is wondering if Detmers is now worth adding off the fantasy baseball waiver wire following that lights-out performance. When this season began, the left-hander was very low on the fantasy baseball rankings and was barely drafted in most leagues.
Fantasy Baseball Week 5 Waiver Wire: Supercharge Your Fantasy Rosters with Alek Thomas and George Kirby
As we look at this week’s fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups, we are back to attack the MLB fantasy rankings for prospects once again. It is an exciting time for fantasy baseball news with some more new names popping up on our radars. As you look to improve your teams, the waiver wire is a good place to search for fantasy baseball sleepers with some new names and some familiar options. Let’s dig into some of those players.
2022 Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide Third Basemen: Breakout Players to Target
It has been a bit depressing with recent MLB labor issues but one thing that we do know is that baseball will be back- hopefully, sooner than later. One way to make an impact in your fantasy league is to correctly pick one of the breakout players of the season. This can be a player that is moving up a level, a player that wins a starting job or a veteran that finally makes the big splash to elite tag.
2022 Fantasy Baseball Draft Guide - MLB DFS Cash Game Strategies
Published: Feb 24, 2022 I play a decent amount of DFS in three sports: NBA, NFL, and MLB. Probably two-thirds of that is in cash games.
Fantasy Baseball Bullpen Report: Diekman or Trivino?
Published: May 13, 2021 The A’s and Blue Jays keep on making us guess as to who is next in line to close out their next win, and the Giants announced that they might be moving towards using a bullpen by committee approach, and then didn’t. That’s just some of what we’re covering in this week’s Bullpen Report.
Fantasy Baseball Interleague Impact: April 5-11
Published: Apr 04, 2021 It’s Sunday, so you know what that means! It’s time to take a look at the interleague matchups for the upcoming week and determine how it will affect our fantasy lineups. Obviously, with the National League not adding the designated hitter spot, we’ll have to examine American League teams that lose that luxury for a series. On the other hand, when a National League team travels, what fantasy players stand to gain some value?
2021 MLB Draft Guide: Universal DH Draft Strategy
Published: Jan 31, 2021 As we get closer to the 2021 Major League Baseball season it is kind of a surprise that we still don’t have in place yet whether or not there will be a universal DH in both the American and National Leagues. Make no mistake about it, if for some reason they don’t agree on it this year, this is inevitable. And honestly, I completely expect it to be adapted this year. It just makes too much sense on both sides.
2021 MLB Draft Guide Player Profile: Tyler Stephenson
Published: Jan 24, 2021 Although opportunity may determine how Tyler Stephenson fares in fantasy for 2021, his sample in 2020 put him on the radar as a stash candidate in two-catcher leagues with eyes on the future. Cincinnati also cleared a path to playing time letting Curt Casali leave via free agency to San Francisco, so Stephenson should break camp with the Reds.
Fantasy Baseball Bullpen Report: September 17
Published: Sep 17, 2020 We are coming down the homestretch #Family! It has been a fantasy baseball season like no other for sure, and if you are reading this you must still be in the hunt. Or you have an unhealthy obsession with fantasy baseball information. Either way, welcome to the second to last Bullpen Report of the season. There isn’t a ton of news around the ninth inning in Major League Baseball, but let’s hit the highlights. Daniel Hudson , Washington Nationals.
Fantasy Baseball Category Impact: Saves
Published: Sep 04, 2020 This week, it’s time to talk closers and add some guys who have recently moved into the closer role or could see their name called here shortly. Even if some of the guys aren’t the closer right now or haven’t been named as such yet, they are worth a speculative add, especially since the role is coming soon and they have been pitching well.
Two-Start Pitchers/Pitching Streamers: Week 4
Another week, another set of COVID suspensions/postponements to deal with when attempting to set up a fantasy rotation. This is certainly proving to be a trying season for the fantasy owners out there, but we continue to strive for success in the management of our squads. Fortunately, there are still a number of top tier and more middle tier dual appearance options to consider going into the fourth week of baseball play.
Fantasy Baseball Stock Watch: August 4
This season has been a complete mess, with constant PPDs due to COVID-19 and players like Cain and Cespedes opting out seemingly out of nowhere. It’s making things very difficult for us fantasy managers, but all we can do is work around it the best that we can. The Stock Watch and Waiver Wire report will be more important than ever this year with the constant issues that we have to work around.
MLB Advanced Analytics: Movement by Pitch Type
MLB Statcast’s Pitch Movement Leaderboard has been on my list of things to dig into since it came out a month ago. This unique metric compares pitches of similar speeds. Gravity affects pitches at certain speeds differently and affects their break more or less for pitches that are faster or slower. We all want more strikeouts. These guys can generate swinging strikes thanks to movement. Here are the pitchers with the most vertical or horizontal movement as compared to their peers.
Fantasy Baseball Daily Round Up: June 4
The MLB Draft began last night with two rounds plus some compensatory picks being made on day one. The Orioles took Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman with the first overall pick. As a junior this season, Rutschman hit .411/.575/.751 with 17 home runs, 76 walks and just 38 strikeouts. The kid is so good at the plate, that a team has literally chosen to give up a run rather than pitch to him. How good is Adley Rutschman, the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft?
2019 MLB Injury Report: May 28
Oh the humanity!!! The only consolation to have to trudge through this report is that my "On the Mend" list is actually longer than my list of who is on the Injured List. Not by much though so don't get too excited. Here's what the injuries are looking like right now: Francisco Cervelli , C PIT – He took a broken bat to the helmet while behind the plate Saturday and landed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
2019 MLB Injury Report: March 27
While the 2019 MLB season technically began last week with the two games in Japan, the real Opening Day festivities are now 24 hours away. Most drafts have been completed so GMs now need to make lineup decisions based on what we know regarding injuries.
2019 MLB ADP and Draft Trends: Two Week Review
With the Super Bowl on the horizon, it’s almost time to shift focus to sunshine and spring training. This seems opportune in the midst of the polar vortex freezing most of the country. In an effort to identify trends within early average draft position data, this week’s data reflects only 15-team drafts within the NFBC. There’s some player movement and some values settling in. Each position will be highlighted briefly with the data points used from past articles for your perusal as well.
Fantasy Baseball Daily Round Up: September 21
For the third straight season, Boston clinched the American League East. In spite of losing only their third series since the start of July. They’ve won 104 games, 54 at home and 50 on the road while avoiding any four game or higher losing streaks all season. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martínez could split votes in the MVP race, but each has impacted Boston’s strong season. Betts went 4-for-5 in Thursday’s division clincher with two doubles and his 30th home run driving in five runs.

MLB Closing Bell: Wong Walk-Off
The Brewers defeated the White Sox 5-0 behind four home runs and strong pitching: Jhoulys Chacin started on the bump for the Brew Crew and he fired 5.2 innings of shutout baseball before handing it over to the incredible Josh Hader . Hader then tossed 1.1 innings and racked up another three strikeouts, this guy is just dominating opposing hitters.
MLB Two Start Pitchers: Week 8
It was not that long ago you were being cautioned about small sample sizes distorting perceptions about starting pitchers. Well, now we are into mid-May and it is time to begin making decisions about which fantasy options you want to cut loose and those that you want to ride out, at least for the present time. Those that are consistently in the bottom tier are suggested as early casualties of misplaced draft optimism.
2018 MLB Injury Report: April 20
As we head towards the end of Week 3 of the fantasy baseball season, most GMs have had to deal with some type of adversity due to injuries. No one is immune so do not look for pity or empathy. You should continue being aggressive on the waiver wire and accumulate as much depth as possible so you can weather a storm which, if it hasn’t set in already, will inevitably come your way. So, without further ado, here is the next edition of the fantasy baseball emergency room.
2017 Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report: October 9
Each week of the National Hockey League regular season, we will take a look at some of the most interesting names that may appear on the waiver wire in various fantasy leagues. It may be NHL players whose situation has improved because of injury, minor-league players recently recalled (or on the verge of a recall) or off to fast starts in the AHL. Here is this week's batch: 1.
