This family has a global distribution, with species occurring in varied ecological regions (Webster 1987). The genus Jatropha, belonging to the tribe Crotonoideae, comprises approximately 175 species predominantly distributed across tropical regions of the Americas, Africa and Asia (Heller 1996, POWO 2024).
