Based on its name, you might assume 2018’s Camp Fire was started by a few errant embers from an unattended campfire. But that’s not what sparked the deadliest wildfire in recorded California history. Instead, Pacific Gas & Electricity power lines in the high hills of Butte County ignited the 153,336-acre wildfire that destroyed nearly 19,000 buildings and killed 85 people, state fire officials determined. So how did the Camp Fire get its name?

The Putah Fire just west of Winters in Yolo County had reached 30% containment by Wednesday morning and hadn’t expanded in acreage overnight, Cal Fire said. The fire began Monday morning after a prescribed burn escaped near Highway 128. (Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa) Based on its name, you might assume 2018's Camp Fire was started by a few errant embers from an unattended campfire. Elk Grove player wins five-figure Mega Millions prize as jackpot hits $413 million

A Mega Millions ticket sold in Elk Grove, California, won more than $35,000, as the jackpot rises to $413 million for this weekend. A Mega Millions ticket sold in California fell just one number short of winning the $392 million jackpot, lottery officials said. Instead, the lucky ticket won $35,396. The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Mega Ball in the drawing Tuesday, June 9, with a 4x multiplier, the California State Lottery said.
