IS GOD still racist? Try as I might, I couldn’t see Him as a Black man. Could you? Maybe it’s the way we were raised, particularly those of us who grew up in the Church. Maybe it’s why I still struggle to see Him as a woman, or a hunchback. Or a Chinese man. Or trans. Or even Morgan Freeman. Even when Hollywood gives us God in Blackface, like Freeman in the movie Bruce Almighty, it’s comedy. Jamie Foxx’s God in Not Another Church Movie? A cross between Shaft and Superfly. IF KEMI Badenoch wins the Tory leadership race (as it seems very likely at the time of writing this) all bets are off. It will be the end of the Black British narrative as we know it, and a moment of realisation when we have to come to terms with a Black history moment that many Black Brits will be extremely uncomfortable with and unimpressed by.

IS IT good news or bad news that the new Bob Marley movie is ready for release next year? It’s called One Love (what else) and it will be one of the biggest box office hits of 2024. So why am I filled with trepidation that it will end up being one big white myth that Bob Marley transcends race, and so does not belong to us? Because I’ve seen the trailer, that’s why. And from what I’ve seen so far the only thing missing is the seven dwarves. I hope I’m wrong. I really do.
