It’s time to visit another side of Germany. W hile huge crowds of tourists flock to Berlin, Cologne, Munich, and Heidelberg, there are some areas of the country—especially in the east—that don’t get the vast numbers of foreign tourists that hit the more popular spots. Saxony, an area about two hours south of Berlin along the Czech and Polish borders, has historically been one of the manufacturing and mining centers of Germany, but it’s also where so much German culture originated.
