Choosing between the past and the future
1. The opposition is focused primarily on the failure of October 7. But that failure has many fathers, dating back to the Oslo Accords and the disengagement from Gaza, and to the belief that the conflict is fundamentally territorial and that if Gaza's Arabs enjoyed economic prosperity, they would prefer not to fight. For decades, this thinking was shared by every branch of Israel's security establishment. On October 7, 2023, the entire doctrine collapsed.
The shame of October 7 denial
Last Thursday, during an episode of Piazzapulita on Italy's La7 television channel, journalist Francesco Giubilei recalled visiting Kibbutz Kfar Aza after the October 7 massacre and seeing the homes where Hamas terrorists had burned children and babies.
Intifada in France, while Europe sleeps
1. France is burning. And this is nothing new. Some 400 schools have been destroyed or damaged, shops have been looted, buses set ablaze, and police officers and teachers injured. What is unfolding in France is not a protest in the tradition of the 1968 student uprising. It is the globalization of the intifada. There is a reason the rioters are waving Palestinian flags rather than French ones. The hundreds of movements around the world fighting in the name of the Palestinians are not seeking justice.
Tehran is a dictatorship on borrowed time
1. The gap between assessments that the Iranian regime was nearing collapse and its continued survival so far has understandably caused public disappointment. Even so, sooner or later, the collapse will come. The downfall of totalitarian regimes or regional powers is usually not a single event, but a process of internal erosion leading to a breaking point. At times, that point separates endurance from collapse by only hours or days. Until then, patience is required, and pressure must continue.
The theology behind Trump's ultimatum
1. In President Donald Trump's latest ultimatum to Iran, a 48-hour warning, he ended with the words "Glory be to God." As often happens in certain circles in Israel, the phrase was met with scorn, or at most treated as the equivalent of our own "with God's help." Commentators, whose worldview either rejects religious discourse or is unfamiliar with it in depth, dismissed attempts to interpret the statement.
Messianic birth pangs, deluxe edition
1. History is knocking at our door. We need patience and nerves of steel, not to stop but to keep striking the enemy with full force. With each passing day, it is absorbing crushing blows it never imagined in its hubris, when it planned to encircle Israel together with its terrorist proxies. Every military base destroyed, every missile launcher eliminated, every symbol of government that crumbles, every senior official taken out brings the end of this evil regime closer.
Answer to an antisemite: A people, not a religion
1. Tucker Carlson recently laid out his worldview in an interview with US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. During the conversation he wondered why Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has a right to the land when his family came from Eastern Europe. What proof is there that Netanyahu's ancestors lived here? He does not strictly observe Jewish religious commandments, so how can he claim a right to the land in the name of the Bible?
Where there are no men
1. Patience. These are historic days, in which we are required to rise far above the blood-soaked present and think about the better future that may await us, if we persevere in our struggle, grit our teeth and be patient. We are an ancient people built for the long haul. Our enemies are counting on our impatience. Not this time. If bringing down the evil regime in Iran means we must remain huddled in shelters on the night of the Passover Seder, the price is worth it.
When theology met the missiles
1. One of the most sensational consequences of the current war is the Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and other Sunni targets. This is a theological, religious, and political earthquake, shattering the cooperation Iran built with the Sunni world while camouflaging its divergent theological outlook. This is a rare historical moment where the masks (the "Taqiyya") have been removed, and the regime in Tehran has returned to its roots: a frontal confrontation with the Sunni world.
Angels without uniforms
1. So now the young women of national service are apparently not good enough. After all, they are not serving as fighter pilots in the Israeli Air Force. On Friday night, Israeli television anchor Danny Kushmaro sharply criticized Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich for encouraging his daughters to volunteer for national service instead of enlisting in the military.
When global morality looks away from Iran’s iron screen
1. The blood rights organizations At a time when Iran's regime has shut down communications and telecommunications networks and partially blacked out the internet, with partial relief thanks to Elon Musk, it is massacring thousands of brave Iranians fighting for their freedom from this blood-soaked regime. The few reports that manage to penetrate the iron screen lowered by the ayatollahs over Iran bring grim news for ordinary citizens.
A Hebrew king inside an Egyptian king
1. What do we do when we face a dead end in our private or national lives? Judah has pledged himself to Benjamin and now watches in horror as the Egyptian ruler ensnares them and prepares to take Benjamin away. Will the son of Leah abandon the son of Rachel? Will Judah abandon Israel? Or, in contemporary terms, will the Jew abandon the Israeli? Judah's exemplary speech is rich in psychological depth. He understands the Egyptian ruler's sensitivity regarding the aged father.
The draft law breaks the psychological barrier
1. Righteous anger has not historically led us to good places, even when the justifications may have been understandable. First, above any debate, Torah study in Israel must be recognized as a national value. The proposed law does not deal only with the military and national service of young ultra-Orthodox men. It also sets a framework for Torah study, reflecting the understanding of its central role in the life of the nation and in anchoring the Jewish people in their land.
Filling wells to spite Jews. Everyone suffers. - The Jewish Star
Just as the Philistines were willing to suffer thirst and doom their region to ruin just so that the Jews would suffer, so it is today with the Palestinians.” A Jew digs in the arid desert soil. The earth is unyielding. He persists, striking rock and dirt, clawing at the land’s innards with his bare hands. Hostile neighbors mock his naïveté, but he believes.
The old conception never died
(Nov. 22, 2025 / Israel Hayom) A Jew digs in the arid desert soil. The earth is unyielding. He persists, striking rock and dirt, clawing at the land’s innards with his bare hands. Hostile neighbors mock his naïveté, but he believes.
The reckless fantasy state
1. On Friday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visited Rome, where he was warmly received as a head of state. Since the establishment of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Italy has been deeply invested in the idea of a Palestinian state. Only a handful of Italian politicians dare to say the truth, that this idea exists only in the European imagination; even the Arabs do not truly believe in it.
US President Zohran Mamdani
1. So while Europe is being taken over before our very eyes and Israel's and the Jewish people's enemies are seizing key positions there, we are about to be told of a similar takeover in the world's largest Jewish city, New York. The leading candidate for mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is an extreme Muslim, anti-Israel figure who holds semi-communist socialist ideas. The Democrats are concentrating efforts for his victory in the hope it will help their return to power.
Beware the misleading argument
1. Then comes the all-purpose, winning argument: "I support Israel's right to self-defense." This statement gives the speaker a false moral high ground from which to accuse us of the most heinous crimes - genocide, the intentional killing of infants and children, and ethnic cleansing.
COMMENTARY: Living by the sword in defense of Israel’s existence
The Oct. 7 Remembrance Day starkly exposed the profound difference, cutting to the very core of existence, between our narrative and the one our enemies tell themselves and the world. I accessed pro-Hamas information sources, but found no difference between them and pro-Fatah channels.
A reckless narrative - The Jewish Star
Gaza War Posted Wednesday, September 4, 2024 12:00 am Our enemies smell blood and will be happy to exploit our internal disputes.” Hamas — not the Israeli government — murdered our children and destroyed Jewish communities. Those caught in the heated argument among us might think that the Jews are to blame for the atrocities, or more accurately, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to blame. 1. Have we forgotten? Hamas murdered our children. Hamas raped our daughters.
Who Ruled the Land of Israel?
1. Here is a historical fact: In the Land of Israel, no other kingdom or state was established apart from the Kingdom of Israel or Judea and the State of Israel. Over the last 3300 years, the only people to establish any kind of political rule in this region were the People of Israel. The only people ever to have their political capital in Jerusalem is the Jewish people. During periods when Jewish independence was lost, various empires treated this land merely as a distant province.

On September 9, 2023, less than a month before the October 7 massacre and the war that followed, violent clashes broke out between hundreds of young Gazans and security guards from a Gaza travel agency that had been granted a license to issue visas to Turkey. Several people were injured, and the company’s offices were damaged.
Jesus — a Palestinian or a Jew? - The Stream
The PA promotes the idea that Jesus was "the first Palestinian martyr" and Mary, Jesus' mother, is an inspiration for "female prisoners — the Palestinian female fighters." In other words, according to the PA, the terrorists, including Hamas, follow in the footsteps of Jesus and Mary.
The Jews refuse to be crucified again
Antisemitism is rearing its head around the world, including in countries that had been considered safe in that respect. It is an open secret that antisemitism is not just prevalent among economically weak and poorly educated segments of the population, nor is it exclusive to conservative, religious, fascist and other groups; it also appears among groups and societies that define themselves as liberal, secular and democratic.
A wake-up call for the entire free world
The war in Israel is the free world’s war. What happened on October 7 on Israel’s southern border is genocide. The response should be according. This is what Israel advocates should be talking about abroad. Hamas is not a normal political entity, nor does it have regular soldiers. The gangs that infiltrated Israel on October 7 surrounded young people who were partying, tortured them, and then executed them.
Not a coup; a democratic debate
Dear Senators and Members of Congress, Earlier this month you received an open letter from former Israeli diplomats presenting their view of the controversy currently raging in Israel over the reform of its judicial system. As far as they are concerned, Israel’s democracy is in danger.
Our Constant Struggle for Identity
Photo Credit: Yonatan Sindel/Flash90 So, what were we fighting about? As per the tradition of our people, it was less about the judicial reform and more about our identity. The judicial system seeks to shape our identity. It does so through controversial judicial rulings that are not based on written law, but on the oral law that each justice brings with him. Half of the Israeli public (and a majority of the Jewish public) wants the Supreme Court to leave issues of identity to the Knesset.
A National Day of Mourning, not a Religious One
Despite Tisha B’Av’s religious appearance, it is not a religious day of atonement (this is what Yom Kippur is for), but rather a national memorial day, similar to Yom HaShoah and Yom HaZikaron. The destruction of the Holy Temple in the year 70 A.D. was the peak of a process that brought the destruction of the land of Israel and Jerusalem and the loss of the last of our independence for the next nearly 2000 years.
From Paris to Jenin
Two war zones appeared on our television screens this week, one in France, the other in Jenin in northern Samaria. It may have seemed like a coincidence, but it wasn’t. France is burning in what seems like an uprising against its very existence. Riots like those we saw in France await Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Scandinavian countries.
A False Messiah
Photo Credit: Ehud Barak via Twitter screen grab Some years ago, Ehud Barak invited me to his home. He wanted to get to know me. We sat for about three hours talking about history and Talmud, philosophy and poetry, policy, and the army. Barak is highly impressive, with a broad perspective, the likes of which I have encountered in very few people. I told him that, in some ways, he had become the Shabtai Zvi of his camp. Barak was the Messiah who was designated as Yitzhak Rabin’s successor.
Berlusconi’s revolution in Israel relations
In many ways, Silvio Berlusconi’s colorful personality captured the essence of being Italian, for better or for worse. Or, as La Repubblica put it, he was “the mirror of this strange country.” For two decades he was Italy’s unrivaled protagonist. Almost anything Berlusconi-related was over the top. With his death, the curtain is drawn on an era. Berlusconi’s path to the top was not through the traditional political system in the country.
Eternity is Jerusalem
Photo Credit: Yonatan Sindel/Flash90 In honor of Jerusalem Day, which marks the liberation and reunification of our capital city, here are a few cultural waystations in over 3,000 years in which we have remembered Jerusalem even during the depths of our exile and because of which we have always known to where we aspire to return: 1. Jerusalem is both at the beginning and end of our national and spiritual concern. Jerusalem is both an idea with a place behind it and a place with an idea behind it.
Our Lives Come First
The rockets and missiles sent by the Islamic Jihad terrorists on the other hand are part of a comprehensive campaign aimed at committing mass murder. For certain purposes, we differentiate between the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Hamas, but they are no more than different manifestations of the same idea expressed in the Hamas Charter, the religious and political manifesto that unites all Islamists, whomever they may be.
Remembering San Remo: When the World Powers Recognized our Rights to OUR Land
Photo Credit: Unknown author 1. Everyone knows about the Balfour Declaration, but most people know very little about the San Remo Conference, which was even more important. At San Remo, the nations of the world recognized our rights to our land – the entire land. This recognition was enshrined in international law and has not changed since. The current position taken by countries around the world regarding our rights distorts the truth and denies the rights that were given to us lawfully.
The Judicial Reform: What Now?
Photo Credit: Erik Marmor / Flash 90 1. I am writing these words before Passover, as we are about to conduct biur chametz (burning the leaven from our homes). They are an attempt to sort out my thoughts and clear my mind of false consciousness. From all corners, we hear voices of disappointment, and complaints about the inability to rule and to realize the will of the electorate.
