From Malin to Mizen Head - Public Urged to Help Create the Largest Archive of Photos of the Northern Lights

30 October 2025:  A researcher in the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) has issued a request for the public to help create the largest Irish archive of photos of the Northern Lights. In May and October 2024 last, the northern lights were visible across the island of Ireland, caused by some of the most intense geomagnetic storms of the 21st century.

Ionosphere of Ganymede: Galileo observations versus test particle simulation

Ganymede is the largest moon of the Solar system, even exceeding the size of Mercury. Since its observation by Galileo in 1610, and maybe even earlier by Gan De, Ganymede has always been of huge interest amongst astronomers. Notwithstanding its size, Ganymede is also known as the only moon with an intrinsic magnetic field (Kivelson et al. 1996) as well as likely hosting a subsurface ocean (Kivelson, Khurana & Volwerk 2002; Saur et al. 2015).
