Evangelical Christian School softball coach Johnny Manetta said he was blindsided by the penalties the Florida High School Athletic Association imposed for actions it determined violated its recruiting policy. Documents obtained by The News-Press show that the FHSAA suspended the four-time state champion coach for the 2026-27 season and fined him $5,000. It also placed ECS on administrative probation for a year and fined the school $2,500.

Updated Aug. 21, 2026, 2:56 p.m. ET The FHSAA suspended softball coach Johnny Manetta for the 2026-27 season and fined him $5,000 for recruiting violations. Manetta was accused of providing housing to a player and her father, which he says was a rental agreement for a damaged home. Manetta plans to appeal the ruling, stating he was not given a chance to present his side of the story.
