A chink of light in the darkness
By Duncan Wright As the clock ticked towards ninety minutes at a restless Ibrox on Sunday evening Nico Raskin was announced as the sponsors man of the match. It was a decision warmly received by a Rangers support looking for positives in what was another difficult afternoon. The Ibrox side saw out the final minutes of the game to win one nil but it was a performance littered with errors from Rangers as they struggled to impose themselves on a Hearts team currently second bottom of the league.
The emergence of a plan?
By Duncan Wright It will take time. It’s a transitional period. There are a number of new players at the club. All statements given by Phiilippe Clement over the first couple of months of this season. Whilst each of the statements are factually correct, many Rangers fans believe these to be convenient excuses for the poor performances seen from Rangers this season in what could arguably be described as a stuttering start.
The winner of the 2024 FEBS Letters Award-an interview with Rachel Flynn
In your lab, you investigate the mechanisms regulating mammalian telomeres and how defective telomeres contribute to aging and cancer. What sparked your interest in telomere biology? My graduate training was in DNA damage repair, and when I joined Dr. Lee Zou's lab while he was at Massachusetts General Hospital for my Postdoctoral Fellowship, I wanted to apply my background to a research question where there was space to grow.
Ibrox is calling and I’m coming home
BY DUNCAN WRIGHT As Rangers emerged from the tunnel on Saturday evening one hundred and thirty days had passed since the team had last taken the field at Ibrox Stadium. When fans made their way back to Ibrox after the Covid epidemic many would have thought that never again would they need to spend such a long period of time not being able to support their team from the stands in Govan.
Five problems plaguing publishing in the life sciences-and one common cause
The publication of research findings is an integral part of the scientific process: work must be shared with others in order to be scrutinised, studied, criticised, extended, taught and added to the collective body of knowledge. Research can be shared in many ways, including through posters and oral presentations at meetings, on pre-print servers, at coffee breaks, over phone or video calls, in lectures, or on social media.
How to give a great speed talk Original
So, your abstract has been selected for a speed talk: Congratulations! A speed talk is the ultimate elevator pitch, delivered to (one hopes) far more people than could be squeezed into the average elevator! (Or lift, if you prefer British English.) Speed talks are, by definition, only a few minutes long (with the duration decided by the event), and so it may seem that they would be far easier to prepare than a longer talk; surely you could easily talk about your research for 3 minutes without...
Sacred Landscapes and Deep Time: Mobility, Memory, and Monasticism on Crowland
ABSTRACT Excavation of a postulated early Medieval hermitage near Crowland, England, identified a site with a long and complex chronological sequence. During the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, a monumental henge was built, among the largest so far identified in the Fens of eastern England, probably later adapted into a timber circle.

Hearts 0-1 Rangers - Danillo draws a blank, but Sima steps up
By Duncan Wright In a quirk of Phillipe Clement’s short tenure as Rangers manager the Belgian has faced up against Hearts manager Steven Naismith three times in his first ten games. The three fixtures have taken place at different venues each time – Ibrox, Hampden and Tynecastle. And whilst the venue may have changed on each occasion, the result has not as once again Rangers emerged victorious against the team many people see as Scotland’s third force.

Rangers 2-0 St Mirren match report
By Duncan Wright As kick off approached on Sunday it was difficult to argue against summer football in Scotland. For the second time in four days the Ibrox faithful took their seats with the outside temperature barley above freezing. With snow on the ground on the approaches to Ibrox, and with the month of December three days old, perhaps there would be a festive feel to the pre-match atmosphere.
A Game of Two Ends
Follow Follow | 10:40 16/04/23 Despite six games of the season remaining the pre-match atmosphere inside Ibrox on Saturday afternoon felt distinctly end of season. Last week’s defeat to Celtic saw Rangers fall twelve points behind in the race for the league title and even the most loyal of supporters would admit that the Ibrox club’s title challenge is over.

Archaeology and the built environment of early medieval England
Extract The bulk of people we can now be assured, were content with something that hardly deserves a better title than that of a hovel […] in such cabins, with bare head room, amid a filthy litter of broken bones, of food and shattered pottery […] lived the Anglo-Saxons (Leeds 1936: 25–26). This quote from E.T. Leeds, a pioneer of Anglo-Saxon archaeology during the first half of the twentieth century, was inspired by his excavation of settlement remains at Sutton Courtenay, then in Berkshire.
