‘Self-Actualization' in a World of Exploitation
“The logic of worldly success rests on a fallacy: the strange error that our perfection depends on the thoughts and opinions and applause of [others]! A weird life it is, indeed, to be living always in somebody else’s imagination, as if that were the only place in which one could at last become real!” –Thomas Merton Until the COVID-19 pandemic forced a total cessation of my activity and direction in life, I was only dimly aware of the true extent of my psychological condition. Not really.
A common theme: those seeking to curb the Latin Mass always seem to be involved in all kinds of pagan promotion
The above is a recording of his Midnight Mass 24th December 2021 broadcast into every home in Ireland. If you are wondering why there are no vocations in Ireland, look no further than this. It is the Irish Church’s failures which have caused people to pick secularism over faith and this shows why. Irish Catholic Church has been decimated and will close 1200 churches over the next 30 years.

Archbishop Eamon Martin is Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland. Homily of Archbishop Eamon Martin for Christmas Eve 2020 Midnight Mass
“Good people all, this Christmas time Consider well and bear in mind What our good God for us has done In sending his Beloved Son”. Those inspiring words from the ‘Wexford Carol’, transcribed a century ago at Saint Aiden’s Cathedral in Enniscorthy, capture the true meaning of Christmas. If ever there was a year to cling to that comforting message, it is this year, 2020 – the year that a coronavirus shook the world and stopped it in its tracks.
Homily of Archbishop Eamon Martin for First Sunday of Advent 2020
The First Sunday of Advent is the Church’s New Year’s Day and this year it dawns on a very different world – rocked by the impact of Covid19. Here in Northern Ireland, public worship has once more been suspended for two weeks in a so-called “circuit-breaker” lockdown, whilst south of the border, congregations can return to Mass and the Sacraments from Tuesday next. These are testing times, and it can be difficult for some of us to find the resilience to keep going.
Homily of Archbishop Eamon Martin at Mass for Dedication of Studies at Catholic Chaplaincy, Queen’s University Belfast
A stand-out memory for me of life in university is that first day in College – with all its nervousness and anticipation; wandering and getting lost among historic buildings, libraries and lecture halls; student cards, clubs, and societies; new faces the promise of making new friends.
A Reflection for Pentecost 2020 by Archbishop Eamon Martin
The gift of WISDOM helps us learn life-long lessons from the Covid19 crisis. God invites us to consider wisely all that has been happening and to weigh up the choices we make. The Spirit brings the gift of UNDERSTANDING. Everywhere there are statistics, economic forecasts, “R numbers”, the “science”. Experts offer advice; governments interpret, sometimes differently. The Spirit invites us to make personal sacrifices on the understanding that we are protecting health and saving lives.
Homily of Archbishop Eamon Martin for the Fifth Sunday of Easter: the Way, the Truth the Life
It’s amazing how certain words and phrases in the Sunday readings seem to speak directly to us as if it was planned that those lines from the Bible were chosen especially for today. But then, the scriptures are the inspired Word of God – God speaks to us in and through them; they never lose their freshness or relevance to our lives. Today, the words that leap out at me from the lectionary are “trust”, “hope”, “life”, “love”, “truth”.
Homily of Archbishop Eamon Martin for Good Shepherd Sunday
“A number of words come to my mind today as I reflect on my own vocation story – gratitude, encouragement, unworthiness, trust, and openness.” – Archbishop Eamon Martin On this Sunday seven years ago I was ordained as a bishop here in this beautiful Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Armagh. It was a day of great joy and celebration for me and for my family and friends – surrounded by the people, religious and priests of the Archdiocese of Armagh.
Easter 2020 Message to the People of Ireland from Archbishop Eamon Martin
Easter message I have an early childhood memory of my mother leaving a basin of water out in the back yard on a bright Easter Sunday morning and inviting us to look in and watch the sun dance! ‘The sun dances on Easter morning’, she told us. It’s the kind of message of joy and hope that we all need during these difficult days. The Easter story begins in darkness and sorrow. The disciples were hidden away behind locked doors, isolated and feeling alone, fearing for their lives.
‘The Church – Showing Solidarity and Compassion in a time of Social Distancing’ - ZENIT - English
In the midst of all the talk of “social distancing” and “self-isolation”, I find myself reflecting this weekend on two consoling images from the scriptures: the first is of a good and gentle Shepherd; the second, of a loving and caring Mother. The Psalm for Mass this weekend is one of the most well-loved passages in the Bible: Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want”.

Ireland: Archbishop Eamon Martin's Pastoral Message for Vocations Sunday, May 12, 2019
Pastoral Message Pope Francis likes to remind young people that they are not just the future of the world and the Church, but they are very much its present – “You are the ‘now’ of God!” he tells them in his apostolic exhortation published in April, Christus Vivit (Christ is Alive). It is beautiful to look at a young person today and see in them already the qualities of a future father, mother, husband, wife, priest or consecrated person.
