Houston DT Oliver skipping bowl game, ending college career
Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver said in a Twitter post that he would not play in the Cougars' bowl game, ending his college football career. Oliver, a junior, announced in March this would be is last college season and he would enter the 2019 NFL draft. He is expected to be a first-round pick, possibly one of the first players selected. Oliver played well at the beginning of this season, but missed four games in the second half with a sore right.
Outland Trophy goes to Houston DL Oliver
Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver won the Outland Trophy as the nation's top interior lineman Thursday night. Oliver made 69 stops from the middle of the Cougars' three-man front. That ranks second in the nation among defensive tackles. He twice had double-digit tackle games and led the Cougars in tackles for loss (14.5), sacks (5.5), quarterback hurries (7) and forced fumbles (2). He had two double-digit tackle games this season.
Job Fair results are in - The Pilot Independent: Business
The event drew nearly 100 job seekers and generated several applications and interviews that ultimately matched some good candidates with equally good jobs. Employers praised the quality of job seekers but many were disappointed that relatively few high school age applicants showed up. Organizers attribute the low student turnout to a schedule conflict with the WHA spring break. They plan to take school schedules into account for next year.
