Yes, and I have a typewriter (and notebook) fetish. I had an electric typewriter in university.

Why did you become a journalist?
My mom said my combination of curiosity and a desire to explain things to others made me ideal. Plus, the military rejected me.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, but I reported for and ran my university student newspaper, which was intoxicating. I’m still drunk on ink and newsprint
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
A piece on multiple preventable deaths in hog farm facilities that helped get safety programs funded.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Find whatever way works best to tell a story. Don’t indulge your biases.
What's your favorite drink?
Whisky
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Two things: it’s technologically backward and it’s boring. Agriculture is cutting edge and fascinating.
