1 Introduction In 2018, the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) (European Parliament, 2018) introduced a Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) to assess the ability of buildings to adapt to the needs of their occupants, optimize in-use performance and to respond to signals from the grid. According to EPBD 2018 (European Parliament, 2018), the policies of the digital Single European Market and the Energy Union will be harmonized to pursue common energy efficiency objectives.
