Have you ever used a typewriter?

I rescued one from an old thrift store and it proudly sits next to my iMac. Nothing beats the clicking of mechanical typing.

How is social media changing news?

It makes breaking a story difficult but it encourages writers to be more compelling. One might be first but the second might tell it better.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Bryan Denton, a reporter for The Sun in The Newsies.

Why did you become a journalist?

I have great love for learning, meeting new people, and writing vigorously. Being a journalist allows me these luxuries, almost daily.

What's your favorite drink?

I had this chocolate/orange whiskey-based cocktail at the Jameson distillery in Dublin and it changed my life.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Atlantic always has interesting takes on controversial, worldly topics. It's a bonus that they're usually entertaining too.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

It has to be my audience. I'm not writing or editing for the consumer, but for the payer, and it makes a difference to understand that.
