Queensland prosecutors are seeking to re-try a man on a rape charge following the retesting of forensic samples. The state's Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Todd Fuller on Thursday lodged an application with the Court of Appeal attempting to overturn the acquittal of a man previously tried in the Townsville District Court for alleged rape.

Queensland youth detention staff walk off job, children locked down for entire weekend

Staff at youth detention centres across North Queensland and the south-east have taken part in a strike prompted by safety and health concerns. The action comes after children at two facilities in south-east Queensland were allegedly locked down for an entire weekend due to staff shortages. Youth Justice Minister Laura Gerber said the department was in negotiations with the Australian Workers' Union.

Man accused of forging estranged wife's death certificate prohibited from selling shared properties

Awlad Hossain has been refused a bail variation that would allow him to sell three properties he owned with Rehana Parvin. Ms Parvin's body was found in a small village in Bangladesh in September 2024 and Mr Hossain has been accused of forging her death certificate. The matter is expected to go to trial at a later date. The estranged husband of a woman allegedly murdered overseas has been prohibited from selling three properties the pair owned together.
