‘It’s a tragedy’: Dan Mullen unhappy with NCAA over eligibility case
UNLV football coach Dan Mullen isn’t happy with the continued ineligibility of one of his top defensive linemen. Cohen Fuller remains on the sidelines after being denied twice for a temporary restraining order preventing the NCAA from declaring him ineligible. “We’re waiting,” Mullen said following Tuesday’s practice. “I wish the NCAA — you look at the class of 2022 and all these kids are going pro in something other than sports — I think that’s their message.
60 yards! Nick ‘The Kick’ can’t hide excitement for UNLV’s new record
He was overseeing an intra-squad scrimmage when the news came down. Nick Garritano had told one of his UNLV baseball team’s managers to keep track of the school’s football game at Air Force on Saturday. “He comes up to me and says, ‘Coach, don’t you have the record for the longest field goal in (UNLV history)?’” Garritano said.
UNLV basketball to retire the jersey of a former star Lady Rebel
Desi-Rae Young, the Desert Oasis High graduate and former star women’s basketball player for UNLV, will have her No. 23 jersey retired by the Lady Rebels during the team’s home opener against UTSA on Nov. 6. Young becomes the fourth Lady Rebel in program history to have her jersey retired. She is the first in 23 years. Young helped lead UNLV to three straight Mountain West regular-season and tournament titles, making three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Graney: Are Raiders staring at future when looking at Bills?
If they had their way, the Las Vegas Raiders probably were hoping they were looking in the mirror Sunday. Looking at their future, at what they want to build, what they want to become. Because it wasn’t always like this for the Bills. Really. Buffalo and its passionate fan base came into Allegiant Stadium and left a 33-30 winner over the Raiders, another one of those games (see Chiefs, Kansas City) where Las Vegas competed well enough but couldn’t finish against a Super Bowl-caliber opponent.
Graney: Loss or not, Raiders show something in bouncing back
Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak said it after the disaster that was 45-17 to the Patriots last week. To paraphrase: Everyone would find out what his team was really made of. Who they really are. And we did. Despite those same Raiders falling to Buffalo 33-30 on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders bounced back in a way that said it’s not their intention of following one stinker with another, that things aren’t like last year’s 3-14 debacle. That it’s different. It’s about the process.
Graney: Run out of Air Force, UNLV still has lots to play for
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Funny. It probably doesn’t seem this way now, not after allowing 430 rushing yards and 41 points and being dismissed out of the altitude. But it’s true: The path still exists for UNLV’s football team to win a Mountain West championship. It just needs to play much better than Saturday. The Rebels fell to Air Force 41-31 because they couldn’t stop the Falcons’ option offense and turned the ball over just enough times not to give themselves a chance.
Air Force runs all over UNLV football in Mountain West victory
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force was, well, too much Air Force for UNLV’s football team Saturday. The Falcons and their vaunted option offense beat the Rebels 41-31 at Falcon Stadium. It was a battle of Mountain West contenders between the Rebels (4-3, 2-1) and Air Force (5-1, 3-1).In all, the Falcons rushed for 430 yards while throwing the ball just three times.
Beware the option: UNLV football flies into Air Force for MW game
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Here’s what they always say about playing Air Force in football: There is never enough time to fully prepare for all the Falcons present in their triple option offense. Never enough time to totally understand the final details of how Air Forces marches down a field. “You always feel (that way),” UNLV defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said. “But we worked on some stuff in training camp and during the bye week and came out to practice (this week) and got right to it.
UNLV football coaches found magic in victory: Run the ball
UNLV football coaches gathered at halftime of the team’s 13-7 victory against North Dakota State on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium and decided this: It was time to run the ball. Like, a lot. UNLV attempted just two passes over the final 30 minutes. A third was nullified by penalty. The Bison were playing a soft zone and trying to take away any explosive pass plays by the Rebels, meaning North Dakota State certainly watched film of UNLV’s win against Cal the previous week.
2 UNLV football players earn MW awards after win vs. North Dakota State
To the victor belong the spoils. It even includes Mountain West honors. UNLV football earned two weekly awards following its 13-7 win against North Dakota State on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium. UNLV’s defensive efforts produced the fewest points by a conference opponent at home since a shutout win over Utah in 2007. Sophomore end Andre Porter is the Defensive Player of the Week and redshirt defensive lineman Kal-El Togafau was named Freshman of the Week.
Graney: How will Raiders respond after being boat-raced by Patriots?
Well, that certainly looked and felt like 3-14. For the first time this NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders resembled the team that suffered through a miserable season last year enough that it got them the No. 1 overall draft pick. More on him later. But for now, there is no better example of how far the Raiders are from their total rebuild than a 45-17 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. And that’s the point.
Ed Graney: UNLV coach wants to avoid roller-coaster ride, seeks consistency
LAS VEGAS - He doesn't want to ride a roller coaster like last year. He certainly doesn't want to have trainers nurse as many injuries to players as then. He wants a more consistent path by which to follow. Josh Pastner is hoping for a more straight ahead approach: Rebound the ball, take care of the ball, gain as many possessions of the ball as possible to make your team's speed a strength. Do that, and the UNLV men's basketball coach sees improvement and, ultimately, success this coming season.

Defense? UNLV football wins knock-down battle in beating NDSU
D-E-F-E-N-S-E. It was the operative word Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium. And when it mattered most, when winning was on the line, the defense of UNLV football stood the tallest. The Rebels knocked off previously unbeaten North Dakota State 13-7 in front of 33,516, knocked off the team that entered a road favorite, knocked off a new member to the Mountain West that began the season in such an impressive manner.
UNLV wins defensive battle to knock out undefeated North Dakota State
Defense was the operative word on Saturday night. And in the end, it was the defense of UNLV’s football team which made the difference. The Rebels beat North Dakota State 13-7 in front of 33,516 at Allegiant Stadium, officially clinching the Mountain West victory with a Mumu Bin-Wahad interception in the final minute. Jai’Den “Jet” Thomas ran for 112 yards on 22 carries for UNLV (4-2, 2-0), which shut out the previously unbeaten Bison (5-1, 2-1) in the second half.

UNLV vs. North Dakota State preview: Key matchups, how to watch, what’s at stake
UNLV GAME DAY The nonconference slate is over for the Rebels, who return to Mountain West play against powerful North Dakota State. UNLV is coming off a 39-31 home win against Cal, which saw Rebels quarterback Jackson Arnold account for five touchdowns. North Dakota State is undefeated and has made itself right at home in its ascension to the FBS level and the Mountain West. The Bison are coming off a 28-0 waxing of Wyoming. UNLV vs.
UNLV football has needed confidence for clash with undefeated NDSU
He has felt this way since his days as an assistant coach. He always thought it ultra important to win a football season’s first conference game. Always believed it set the tone for what was to come. Dan Mullen watched his UNLV team open Mountain West play with a 21-6 victory at Hawaii on Sept. 5. Watched it set that tone for league play. Now, things only get tougher.
UNLV basketball opens exhibition season by falling to Utah
This is what UNLV basketball coach Josh Pastner wants. Three exhibition games against Power 4 opponents. Teams that will prepare his side for November and beyond. Teams that will offer different looks, different styles, different ways of doing things. The first such matchup came Wednesday night, when the Rebels lost to Big 12 foe Utah 79-69 at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV was without a handful of leading players nursing injuries and one (senior guard AJ Storr) who’s still ineligible.
A familiar position: Lady Rebels again picked to win Mountain West

Runnin’ Rebels picked 4th in Mountain West, look to build chemistry
Josh Pastner talks about chemistry, cohesiveness, togetherness. Critical pieces to building a basketball program. He will try to do so again this season at UNLV, his second as coach of the Runnin’ Rebels. It has become almost tradition now across the country in this world of NIL and a transfer portal, teams having to rebuild annually with new faces. UNLV is no different. “I think one of the ways you (build chemistry) is you have to be up front with everything,” Pastner said.
Are you ready for some basketball? UNLV hosts Utah in exhibition
And so another season begins. Sort of. UNLV men’s basketball plays the first of three exhibitions against Power 4 teams on Wednesday when it hosts Utah at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. “We’ve had some really good practices with the emphasis in June, July and August being strength and conditioning,” second-year UNLV coach Josh Pastner said. “We really emphasized that and tons of shooting and skill development in the summer. “I really like our team. We have a good group of guys.
60,000? Dan Mullen wants UNLV fans to double down vs. North Dakota State
Dan Mullen didn’t pull any punches following his UNLV football team’s 39-31 victory against Cal on Saturday. He suggested fans double down on attending this week’s home game against undefeated North Dakota State. Even threw out the number 60,000. The attendance likely won’t be in that vicinity at Allegiant Stadium for UNLV’s homecoming game Saturday at 4 p.m., but the Bison are said to be bringing 10,000 of their own faithful. You’re likely talking about a crowd of 40,000-plus.
UNLV quarterback earns weekly Mountain West award
UNLV quarterback Jackson Arnold was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 39-31 victory against Cal on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium. Arnold accounted for five touchdowns against the Golden Bears. He threw for 177 yards and three scores and ran for two more. He became the first UNLV quarterback to post a 100-yard rushing game since 2024 by finishing with 110 yards on 15 attempts. This is the first Mountain West weekly award for Arnold.
Graney: Close loss to Chiefs? Raiders still have master plan
It’s all about levels and where you land on them. Kansas City has a football team right now where the Chiefs are at one that few NFL teams have enjoyed this young season. The Las Vegas Raiders aren’t, and such was proven in a 30-27 loss to the class of the AFC West on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. But that in no way impedes the rebuilding process Las Vegas is undertaking. This wasn’t a step back. Not when you consider the opponent and how close things were throughout.
Graney: Kubiak shows some swagger but Raiders has no run game in loss to Chiefs
So much for being all alone at the top of the AFC West. It wasn’t to be for the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, whose inability to run the ball and their own self-inflicted mistakes down the stretch led to a 30-27 loss to the Chiefs. Still, this was Raiders coach Klint Kubiak leaving the field at halftime of his team’s game against the Chiefs on Sunday: “Not good enough. We’ve got to be better. But you know what, we’re winning. We’re going to win the game.” Finally. Some swagger.
‘Those are huge plays’: 4th-down stops help propel UNLV past Cal
While it might not seem much in the grand scheme of a 39-31 victory, UNLV’s football team had some fourth-down stops Saturday at Allegiant Stadium that definitely helped propel the Rebels to victory. UNLV closed out the nonconference portion of their schedule with the win and now re-enter Mountain West play with an overall record of 3-2 and 1-0 in league. Coming off this sort of victory can only help its cause. The Rebels stopped Cal on three fourth-down plays with the Bears driving for scores.
3 takeaways from UNLV football’s wild win against Cal
In a game that had a little bit of everything on Saturday, UNLV’s football team outlasted Cal 39-31 at Allegiant Stadium. And, man, this had some crazy back-and-forth action. The Rebels lost all of a 17-point halftime lead before rallying in the fourth quarter to close out the nonconference portion of their schedule. “Obviously, a tremendous win by our guys,” Rebels coach Dan Mullen said. “Showed a tremendous amount of toughness as a football team. So many ups and downs for both sides of battling.
QB Arnold accounts for 5 TDs as UNLV rallies past Cal
In a game that saw a little bit of everything and lasted more than four hours, UNLV’s football team defeated Cal 39-31 on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium. UNLV (3-2) all but clinched things when quarterback Jackson Arnold scored from 2 yards out with 3:25 remaining and pushed the Rebels ahead 39-25. It culminated a UNLV rally that saw the Rebels lose all of a 17-point halftime lead before coming back for the victory. Arnold rushed for 110 yards and two scores while throwing for 158 and three more.
Winning on Monday: UNLV football promotes practice as key
UNLV’s football team beat Akron 38-10 last week. The game, like with most of the college variety, fell on a Saturday. But the Rebels weren’t really victorious then. They won on Monday. It’s all about preparation. All about how well a practice week begins and how much work you put in over the remainder of it. And the Rebels were far better than in their previous game, a 44-6 thrashing by North Texas. The next test is here, a game against Cal on Saturday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium.
Graney: Kirk Cousins’ early play is a gift for Raiders, Fernando Mendoza
This is what they envisioned when guaranteeing him $20 million for the 2026 NFL season. This is what they hoped would occur. Sure. It’s three outings. A small sample size over a 17-game slate. But for now, Kirk Cousins is doing everything the Las Vegas Raiders need out of a starting quarterback. Mostly, he’s winning.
Graney: Knights owner, Colangelo seem the perfect marriage for NBA team
It’s a great marriage on paper. It seems like one in reality, too. Jerry Colangelo and Bill Foley combining to purchase an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas. Bringing both of their groups together to be the one professional basketball team owners decide they’d like to charge $12 billion to $13 billion for a seat at the table. Foley’s hockey team, the ever-successful Golden Knights, began their 10th season Tuesday night in T-Mobile Arena by hosting the Chicago Blackhawks.
Graney: Here are three Original Misfits 10 years later
William Karlsson had one concern: That the seats in T-Mobile Arena would be occupied more by visiting fans than those of the Vegas Golden Knights. “I was wrong,” Karlsson said. “I’m very happy the way things turned out.” Ten years. A decade’s worth of winning. A Stanley Cup championship. Two more trips to the Final. Playoff appearances in all but one season. And three players — Karlsson, Shea Theodore and Brayden McNabb — being those left from that inaugural expansion season.
Graney: The difference in these Raiders — they know how to win
Do you know what’s different through three football games? So far, the Las Vegas Raiders know how to win. They make the most important plays at the most critical times. It’s not like in recent seasons. It’s not like before. And the record shows it. The Raiders on Sunday did it again, winning their third straight to open the season with a 35-27 victory at New Orleans. Las Vegas won three games all last year. Yeah. Seems like a long, long time ago.
UNLV linebacker earns honor for play in blowout of Akron
UNLV senior linebacker Cam Santee was named the Mountain West’s Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 38-10 win at Akron. Santee, a transfer from Holy Cross, led all players with 10 tackles, including eight solo. He also grabbed one of UNLV’s three interceptions as the Rebels pitched a second-half shutout in their largest non-league road win since UNLV first joined a conference in 1982. Santee graduated from Avon High, about an hour’s drive from Akron.

3 takeaways from UNLV football’s blowout win at Akron
AKRON, Ohio – So is 44-6 officially dead and buried? UNLV’s football team played Saturday as if it was, coming off a blowout loss at North Texas two weeks ago to do a little rolling of its own. The Rebels turned a 14-10 halftime lead against Akron into a 38-10 laugher of a victory at InfoCision Stadium. “I think we were able to put guys in position to succeed,” UNLV coach Dan Mullen said. “We did that a little better today. There’s a lot to get better at.
Graney: ‘Jet’ was his old self, and with it UNLV football rolled
AKRON, Ohio — In times of need, you count on the stars. Jai’Den “Jet” Thomas is one for UNLV’s football team. He was needed Saturday and, wow, did he ever come through. Thomas led the way for an offense that for the most part found itself here, the Rebels rolling to a 38-10 victory against Akron at InfoCision Stadium. It was a team effort to rid UNLV of the bad taste a 44-6 loss to North Texas had left two weeks ago.
UNLV football gets back on winning track by routing Akron
AKRON, Ohio – Jake Pope said earlier this week UNLV’s football team needed to win Saturday to get the bad taste of losing out of its collective mouths. Mission accomplished. The Rebels came into InfoCision Stadium and dominated Akron 38-10. Pope, UNLV’s senior safety, also said it wasn’t about just getting to 2-2 on the season and putting behind the 44-6 loss to North Texas in the team’s previous game. It was about making a statement and beating the Zips handily. And the Rebels did.
Road warriors: UNLV to play 3rd straight game away from home
AKRON, Ohio — Jake Pope says it’s more unique than difficult. That he believes it pretty cool to travel so far over the course of a college football season. That he and his UNLV football teammates won’t use any of it as an excuse. Pope is a senior safety for the Rebels, who have racked up some serious frequent flyer miles these first four games. Know this: UNLV knows every inch of its charter plane and then some.
Dan Mullen: Inconsistency has led to UNLV football’s 1-2 start
He says inconsistency in performance is the most frustrating part. That an impressive win at Hawaii then could be followed by such a blowout road loss against North Texas. UNLV football coach Dan Mullen and his staff began asking themselves questions as to how things might improve. What are they requesting players to do in order for them to perform at a high level? What does the team really need? What does this situation call for?
Graney: Raiders outplay Chargers and are perfect for it
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – This is one of those needed-to-steal games. You beat the teams (Miami) you're supposed to and then take as many as you can of which you are an underdog. That's how you climb over a win total of 5½. Heck, that's how you keep things interesting for yourself in the AFC West. The Las Vegas Raiders have done so now through two weeks and are perfect for it.
Graney: Practice squad? Call Hollywood about Raiders WR Cody White
INGLEWOOD, Calif. — It has the makings of a pretty good Hollywood screenplay. The NFL for many is about opportunity. About taking advantage of those pointed in your direction. Cody White the past two weeks has done that for the Las Vegas Raiders. The guy is doing some memorable things in the pursuit of winning. White was promoted off the practice squad again and made coach Klint Kubiak look all the smarter for it, catching two touchdowns in a 26-14 win against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
Golden Knights shouldn't forget losing in Cup Final
By Ed Graney - Las Vegas Review-Journal (TNS) LAS VEGAS - In one way, everyone is embracing a clean slate. A starting over point, as their new coach likes to call it. In another, there isn't a player on the Golden Knights who wants to forget. You can have it both ways, of course. Copyright 2026 Tribune Content Agency.
Graney: Golden Knights shouldn’t forget losing in Cup Final Original
In one way, everyone is embracing a clean slate. A starting over point, as their new coach likes to call it. In another, there isn’t a player on the Golden Knights who wants to forget. You can have it both ways, of course. One doesn’t have to cancel the other. Ryan Craig has begun his tenure as the Knights’ coach and yet the memory of coming within two wins of claiming the franchise’s second Stanley Cup last season over Carolina remains very much part of how players view a new season. And it should.
UNLV linebackers strive to get better amid 1-2 start to season
Mike Scherer talked about grit. About finishing. About mental toughness. About the ability, when things aren’t perfect, to stick with it and do your job and follow your assignment. No matter where you are on the field, no matter what the situation, you’re expected to perform.
Graney: What ankle? Ashton Jeanty puts on show in Raiders’ season-opening win
He said they’re moving forward. That the past is the past. That they’re not thinking about last year, about the three wins. That they’re building a culture to win football games. Ashton Jeanty certainly backed up his words Sunday. Yeah. It wasn’t that long ago — Aug. 23 to be exact. But the fear most felt when Jeanty went down with an ankle injury never really materialized. The second-year running back for the Las Vegas Raiders recovered enough to be ready and prepared for Week 1.
Graney: Raiders did what they were supposed to in beating the Dolphins
The Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday did what they were supposed to. Beat an inferior opponent. This is what the Raiders need. To show up and take care of business when it's expected. There will be much tougher times ahead. You can't lose these ones. And they didn't, sending Miami home a 27-13 loser at Allegiant Stadium. It was at times so methodical for the Raiders, especially a season-opening drive that went 93 yards over 16 plays and a hefty 8:58 off the clock.
