4.4. Function and Esthetics In the head and neck area, reconstruction is required in approximately 13% of melanoma cases [24], which is often complicated because of the close proximity of sensitive anatomical structures. Proper flap selection and design mainly depends on the size and location of the defect and the thickness and laxity of the skin. It is not possible to set up a rigid algorithm; each case must be approached with a unique plan.
