Press Release The government of Pakistan has proposed in the Finance Bill an increase in the General Sales Tax rate from 10% to 17% on dairy powders, yogurt, cheese, butter, milk cream, tea whitener, and flavored milk. Contrary to the pre-budget discussions with the Pakistan Dairy Association, this proposed sales tax increase will result in an additional payment of Rs 5 billion by the large end user – negatively impacting nutritional levels.

Beleaguered by protests over its forced eviction of indigenous villagers in Karachi, Bahria Town is now getting support from the federal government as well. The PTI government, acting under explicit instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, has asked the Supreme Court of Pakistan to grant relief to Malik Riaz’s Bahria Town in depositing installments of the Rs. 460 billion that the apex court ordered the developer to pay as fine in March 2019.
