Lanterns (Season 1)- Review
So far, the new DC universe helmed by James Gunn has been a little hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed the latest Superman film but found shows like Creature Commandos lacking and didn’t hear many good things about Supergirl either. Nevertheless, I always liked Green Lantern as a concept, and I particularly enjoy the John Stewart version of the character due to his appearance in the Justice League cartoons. Considering this latest show placed him to the forefront, I figured it deserved a watch.
Warhammer Survivors Recieves Release Date
I’ve always enjoyed the various spin-off games set within the universe of Warhammer 40K. This week, Games Workshop and the developers at Auroch Digital have announced some new details regarding the upcoming roguelite entry within the universe. Hopes to capture the magic of the highly successful Vampire Survivors. Announced earlier this year, Warhammer Survivors allows you to battle through endless swarms of enemies utilizing characters from the 40k and Age of Sigmar fantasy universe.

Yami Kids Available Now On Steam
I usually try to keep news articles more focused on popular games and series. However, when a title comes out that I find genuinely interesting in a genre I enjoy, I feel it’s important to bring attention to the game to wider audiences. Yami Kids is a brand-new retro-style monster-catching JRPG that is available now on Steam for $13.99. The game is developed by Yanako RPGs, who previously worked on Dokimon Quest, another retro monster-taming game.
September Nintendo Direct News Recap
Today’s Nintendo Direct was packed with tons of info and some great new game announcements so let’s get right into it. Starting things off was a trailer for the upcoming Switch 2 port for Monster Hunter Wilds. The Switch 2 version will include all updates the game has received since launch as well as the addition of local co-op play. The game is set to release on Switch 2 on December 4th, with the major DLC expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance slated for 2027.
THQ Nordic Showcase Recap
I always make it a point to cover THQ Nordic showcases as I feel they have always produced quality titles that easily get overshadowed by other games. This past week was the 2026 showcase for the studio, which contained a variety of nice updates and new looks at upcoming titles, so let’s get into it. This showcase began with a look at the latest DLC chapter for the horror title Reanimal.
Nintendo Reveals Details for Pokopia Expansion
I’m very happy to see the success of Pokémon: Pokopia, which was released to positive reviews and reactions across the board. Hopefully this will encourage the Pokémon Company to continue making interesting spin-off titles. In any case, at this year’s summer Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Pokopia would be receiving a well-deserved DLC expansion. This week Nintendo decided to reveal more details regarding this update.
Where Winds Meet To Release Second DLC
Where Winds Meet is one of those titles that I still can’t really believe is free to play, given its level of polish and expansive content. This week, the development team has announced the second major free DLC expansion for the game, which will release on July 23rd. The Hidden Mountain expansion will feature a distinctly eastern-themed Steampunk environment set in the Bujian Mountain.
Let’s Not Kill Physical Games
Last week, Sony decided to finally drop the bomb on everyone and announced that it will be ending physical disc production for all PlayStation titles, come January 2028. This news also arrives a week after Rockstar announced that GTA VI‘s physical release will basically be a box with a game code on a piece of paper inside. Obviously, these decisions to end physical game production are not made without any evidence of the growing popularity of digital-only titles.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Shows off First Gameplay
I’ve been waiting to discuss the latest entry in the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series until there has been some concrete information on the game besides brief glimpses into the story mode. This week, Bandai Namco has finally revealed the first bit of gameplay for the action RPG, so let’s break it down. Xenoverse 3 will take place primarily within West City in the far future during Age 1000 and will see players take on the role of a student at the university.
Prelude Dark Pain (PC) Preview
Last week was Steam Next Fest, and with it came a host of new demos to try out. I thought I would start off with a title that instantly captured my interest through its comic book art style: Prelude Dark Pain. Set in a dark fantasy world and developed by Quickfire Games, Prelude Dark Pain is a story-focused tactical RPG which is right up my alley.
Heroes of Might and Magic Teases New Content
I’ve been very much looking forward to Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, the latest entry in the long-running Might and Magic series, which just entered early access a few weeks ago. This week, publisher Hooded Horse, in partnership with Ubisoft, has announced plans for future content updates, which is certainly exciting considering the game is looking promising thus far with over 1 million copies sold in the first month.
Destiny 2 To Stop Content Updates
I’ve covered a fair bit of Destiny 2 content updates in the past. The general discourse around the game seemed somewhat positive, and as far as live service goes, the game certainly was successful. However, this week came a surprising announcement from Bungie. After launching in 2017 and about nine years of constant updates, Destiny 2 will receive its final piece of content on June 9th, 2026, though the game will remain playable for the foreseeable future.
Wake-active brainstem GABA neurons signal sleep pressure by upregulating AMPA receptors to drive recovery sleep
Keywords sleep homeostasis oral pons sleep rebound brainstem synaptic plasticity sleep deprivation Introduction Both stages of mammalian sleep, non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREMS) and rapid eye movement sleep (REMS), are regulated by homeostatic mechanisms—the longer wakefulness persists, the stronger the urge to sleep becomes, and there is usually then some catching up on lost sleep.1,2 Although classically, the sleep drive is framed as being determined by two distinct processes, process S...
Star Fox Remake Coming Soon
Last week, Nintendo unveiled what’s next for the beloved Star Fox series. Unfortunately for fans, it’s not anything brand new. The roughly 20-minute Star Fox direct video focused on the newest title coming to Nintendo Switch 2, simply dubbed Star Fox. This game is a remake of the classic Star Fox 64 title, yet again with admittedly more polish than ever before. Star Fox features completely new HD graphics with a realistic art style that is certainly a switch-up for the series.
New Content Coming to Fatal Fury: City of Wolves
I’ve always enjoyed SNK’s characters and world, but I have not had time to try out the latest entry in the Fatal Fury series yet. However, last week SNK gave me a good reason to start with the announcement of a big new update for Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, as well as a nice price drop to hopefully capture more players. The latest DLC to City of Wolves coincided with the game’s one-year launch anniversary, adding Wolfgang Krauser von Stroheim to the roster on April 24th.
Battlefield 6 Content Roadmap Revealed
This week, the Battlefield 6 development team unveiled the latest updates that players can expect in the coming year. This roadmap not only includes content for the main game but also Battlefield REDSEC the free-to-play Battle Royale mode built within the games engine. This roadmap is quite extensive and includes details for not only the latest season but also seasons 4 and 5.
Pokémon Champions (Switch) Review
Although I no longer plan to buy any new mainline Pokémon RPGs for the foreseeable future, I was once a big fan of competitive battling. I used to build teams and test myself on ladders quite frequently during Generation 6 when Mega Evolutions were first introduced. Despite this, I wasn’t planning to give attention to Pokémon Champions, the newest official battle simulator, until I heard it was free to play.
Lumentale: Memories of Trey (PC)- Preview
In my never-ending quest to find new and interesting monster-catching RPGs, I decided to try the demo for Lumentale: Memories of Trey. Developed by Beehive Studios and published by Team 17, this game will be released on May 26th for PC as well as Nintendo Switch Lumentale is quite similar to Anode Heart, another indie monster-catching game that I recently played and discussed here. You play as an android who has lost his memories.
Marvel MaXimum Collection available now
I’ve covered a few Limited Run game releases before, and absolutely love their commitment to preserving old titles, as well as indie games by producing high-quality physical releases and collections. This week, the publisher has announced a collaboration with Marvel Games and Konami Digital Entertainment. The Marvel MaXimum Collection contains six classic 8-bit and 16-bit titles from various platforms.
Apex Legends to Host Gundam Collaboration
While I’ve never been that much of an Apex Legends fan, I’ve recently become a big fan of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. It’s certainly one of the best sci-fi franchises, and it’s always exciting to see quality works given attention. This week, Respawn Entertainment announced a collaboration with the legendary series, which will begin on March 10th. As is the case with most themed events, players can expect a host of new cosmetics, maps, and weapons along with some special gameplay features.
Pokémon Day News Breakdown
Not only was last Friday Pokémon Day, but it also marked the franchise’s 30th anniversary. During the Pokémon Presents digital showcase, Game Freak revealed numerous updates for current titles as well as teasers for upcoming projects. The showcase kicked off with a reveal for the Pokémon Red and Blue Music Collection, which releases the legendary soundtrack in a series of fun Gameboy inspired cartridge cassettes.
Indie Gems - Anode Heart
It’s been some time since I’ve discussed games here on Phenixx Gaming. This is in part due to my growing annoyance with the current state of the industry trends and rising costs. Recently, I’ve been playing a lot of older titles over current releases and making my way through my Steam backlog. It’s no secret to any hardcore gamer that Indie titles often are where the best experiences are these days.
Bandai Namco Unveils The Future for Dragon Ball
This past week was an especially exciting one for Dragon Ball fans like myself. With the recent passing of Toriyama, the franchise’s future has been a little uncertain. However, Bandai Namco has not only announced a brand-new game project and continued support for current releases, but also the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary. By far the most exciting news came with the teaser for Age 1000, a brand new Dragon Ball game.
Comic Book Corner - Transformers
I have always been a massive Transformers fan. It’s an especially goofy and silly franchise that just speaks to my inner child. However, up till now I’ve never read any comics based on it. IDW Publishing had the license to the characters for quite a while and has published hundreds of issues, but they are quite difficult to track down in collected formats, and the overall size of the series makes for a difficult entry point.
Is Console Gaming Finally Dead?
Back in November of 2025, Valve announced a brand new version of the Steam Machine. While there is still some debate over things like price, I think that this new hardware is especially exciting. I’ve grown to love PC gaming since I bought my first real machine about five years ago. However, I still would love to have a console-like experience without having to deal with some of the baggage that comes with the modern gaming industry. Nintendo is charging $80-$90 for physical games.
Nintendo Adaptations We Need
This coming year, following the success of the first film, Nintendo announced the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. ALegend of Zelda movie is also confirmed to be in the works. While I still find the English voice cast somewhat questionable for these films, I do love how they look visually and am glad that audiences and fans seemed to enjoy them. The film also sparked a question in my mind that I figured would be worth discussing.
Comic Book Corner- Absolute Batman
It’s been quite some time since I took a look at a book from DC comics here. I often like to showcase lesser-known characters and stories. However, I’ve heard a lot of interesting things regarding the Absolute DC universe, the newest alternate timeline or world of DC heroes. DC is allowing writers more freedom to make significant changes to aspects of its legacy characters in order to inject new life into the familiar storylines.
New Warframe Update Adds Tons Of New Content
Warframe is one of the most popular free-to-play action games, and this month, hardcore fans will have a wealth of new content to explore. The game’s latest story chapter, The Old Peace will be launching on December 10th. In addition, this expansion will feature two new game modes. The Perita Rebellion is a survival mode set on the battlefield of a distant moon. Players will survive for twelve minutes, collecting temporary upgrades by completing challenges and building their character.
Death Stranding TV Series in Development
This week brought an interesting piece of entertainment news with relevance to the gaming industry. Disney+ has partnered with legendary creator Hideo Kojima to develop an animated series based on the Death Stranding games. As of now, the series is titled Death Stranding Isolations and is set to premiere in 2027 exclusively on Disney+. This is an interesting collaboration to be sure, given the overall strangeness of the Death Stranding universe and general brand philosophy of Disney.
Exciting Warhammer Rogue-like Announced
This week, came an awesome announcement for fans of rogue-likes and the Warhammer universe. Warhammer Survivors is an upcoming title being developed by Auroch Digital, the studio behind the retro-style shooter Warhammer 40K: Boltgun. This project is also a collaboration between Auroch Digital and poncle, the developers behind the critically acclaimed Vampire Survivors. Warhammer Survivors looks to built directly within the Survivors game engine.
Amazon Gaming is Changing in 2026
When Amazon first announced its entry into the gaming industry, I was immediately wary. While the company certainly has the capital to produce high-quality games, the move seemed like nothing more than an attempt to cash in on a growing, profitable market. This week’s report has only further solidified that opinion for me. According to a report by The Verge, Amazon will be abandoning development on its various MMOs as well as instituting mass layoffs, of course.
Kingdom Come Deliverance II’s new DLC detailed
Kingdom Come Deliverance II is easily the most definitive historical action RPG of the last decade. If you haven’t heard of the game, it takes place in 15th-century Bohemia. The narrative is told from the perspective of Henry of Skalitz, who sets out on a journey to avenge his parents’ murder. Apart from being an open-world medieval sandbox ,the game features first-person combat and dozens of activities from blacksmithing to jousting.
New Dissidia Game Coming Next Year
As a big Final Fantasy and fighting game fan, I’ve always wanted to give the Dissidia series a try. However, considering the series hasn’t been ported to many platforms, it’s been difficult. Based on recent news, Square Enix aims to fix that with this brand-new entry. This week, Square confirmed Dissidia Duellum: Final Fantasy is not only in development and planned for a 2026 release, but will be releasing for IOS, Android, and mobile devices.
New Lord of the Rings RPG in Development
As a hardcore Lord of the Rings fan, I think fondly of the days when the series would receive dozens of new games based around the IP. There were certainly some misses, but a ton of great titles as well. In recent years, however, the series has stagnated slightly. Recent gaming adventures within Middle-earth, like Return to Moria and Tales of the Shire, while nice concepts, left a lot to be desired from many fans, myself included, hoping for another story-focused action or adventure-oriented title.
Comic Book Corner - Kroma
Over the last few months, I’ve found that I quite enjoy miniseries. Apart from being a great option for those with limited reading time, it’s especially interesting to me as a storyteller to see how other authors can skillfully craft satisfying narratives with only limited word counts or issue length. Today’s story, Kroma, is a prime example of the short story medium through the graphic novel format. The series totals four issues and is collected in one trade paperback.
Massive-Verse Fighting Card Game Review
Welcome to a special review here on Phennix Gaming. I recently had the opportunity to try out an upcoming physical card game based on the Massive- Verse comic book universe. This review will focus on my thoughts and impressions, as well as give a breakdown of the game. I’m excited to have this opportunity, and maybe in the future I can bring more TCG content to the site.
Comic Book Corner- All Against All
I’m back once again with another comic review. This week I wanted to take a look at another Image Comics miniseries called All Against All. This story is written by Alex Paknadel in collaboration with artist Caspar Wijngaard. Originally released in 2023, the series is only five issues in length and is collected in a trade paperback format. Sadly, you might have a difficult time tracking it down. The story of All Against All is set in a fascinating science fiction universe.
Chrono Odyssey to Receive Huge Rework
Chrono Odyssey is a game that immediately caught my eye with its initial visuals, ambitious scope, and flashy action combat when it was revealed a few years ago. The action MMORPG promised to deliver a lot, but it has been stuck in development for a while. However, in response to the closed beta held on June 20th, the developers have announced a huge overhaul for most of the game’s systems in response to feedback.
AdHoc Studio to Produce Critical Role Game
I’m a pretty casual fan of Critical Role. I quite enjoyed their animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, and for a time, tuned into the tabletop show. From my experience, it’s clear that the creatives and cast members know what makes a good story and are quite adept at crafting compelling high fantasy worlds. That’s why I was quite excited about the prospect of a game set within their Exandria universe.
Comic Book Corner- Eight Billion Genies
Eight Billion Genies is a series I had been interested in checking out for some time, as it was highly praised on release. The series is only an eight-issue miniseries, so it’s perfect for someone looking for a self-contained narrative or a quick read. Published by Image Comics, Eight Billion Genies is written by Charles Soule and features artwork from Ryan Brown. Brown is the co-creator of the story, while Kevin Knipstein handles colors.
Project Pantheon Detailed by Wolcen Studio
When Project Pantheon was first teased back in January, I treated it as something to be interested in once more details were revealed. I had certainly forgotten about the project until this week, when Wolcen Studio decided to give audiences a first look at the game through a deep dive interview. First and foremost Pantheon is set in a dark fantasy world heavily influenced by real-world mythology from dozens of cultures.
Might and Magic Receives New Publisher
As someone who’s been looking to get into the legendary Heroes of Might and Magic series, I’ve been keeping my eye on the upcoming title and general discourse surrounding the series. Generally, most people seem to think that Ubisoft has mishandled the franchise since acquiring the rights to the series in 2003, and the latest two games left a lot to be desired from fans. However, there is a lot to be excited about for the upcoming game Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.
PalWorld to Receive Terraria Crossover
After creating a string of controversy and capturing the attention of thousands of players, PalWorld has faded into relative obscurity in recent months. According to reports, Nintendo is still actively pursuing a lawsuit against the publisher, but I don’t believe this is the reason behind the decline. Most likely, the general public simply moved on to the next shiny new thing.
Age of Mythology To Receive Second Expansion
I’ve been having a ton of fun with the remake of Age of Mythology since its release. The game has not only kept the original feel of the 2002 title but also improved the core mechanics. Since the release of the Immortal Pillars expansion back in March, the game has officially caught up to all the content released in the original version. I desperately held out hope that this would not be where support for the game would end once again.
Comic Book Corner: Geiger
This week, I have decided to take a look at Geiger, published by Image Comics. Geiger is unique in that it is essentially the start of a new independent comic universe united under the Ghost Machine label. The series was created by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, two well-known names within the comic industry, who started this universe in 2021.
Monster Hunter Wilds To Add Street Fighter Gear
While franchise collaborations certainly aren’t new territory for Capcom, it is still fun to see. This week, Capcom announced a string of Street Fighter 6-related gear and cosmetics coming to Monster Hunter Wilds. These cosmetics will be available in the form of a free DLC update along with paid DLC. The premier item for this batch of cosmetics is certainly the free Akuma skin. Not only does this make your character look like the Raging Demon himself, but it also allows you to play like him.
Thornhill- BODIES (Album) Review
Like many people who grew up during the 2000s, I’m a big Deftones fan. Their sound is certainly one that has stood the test of time, and its impact has created many other sub-genres within the rock and alternative music scene. I bring this up because Thornhill certainly has a lot of influence from the band. Usually, I don’t enjoy groups that piggyback off the sound of more successful artists.
New Characters Coming to Double Dragon Gaiden
I was a big fan of the newest entry in the Double Dragon franchise when I reviewed it about a year or two ago. Since then, the game has continued to roll out new content, which only further enhances my recommendation for the title. This week, developer Secret Base has unveiled yet another free DLC update for the beat ’em up, which adds two new playable characters. First to join the roster is Jeff.
