1. Neglected Tropical Diseases and the WHO NTD Roadmap Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) form a category of diverse, mainly infectious, diseases that are prevalent in tropical and subtropical countries. They cause significant ill health, economic hardship, disability and death and are associated with stigma and discrimination.

1 Introduction Morbidity and mortality caused by malaria is still a public health concern despite the fact that it is a curable and preventable disease. World Malaria Report of 2022 reveals that between 2019 and 2020, estimated malaria cases increased from 218 to 232 million, and deaths from 544 000 to 599 000 in the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region WHO (2022). In Kenya, malaria remains a major public health problem accounting for an estimated 13%–15% of outpatient consultations.
