1 Introduction Heart transplantation (HT) remains the gold standard treatment for advanced heart failure, but the shortage of suitable organs persists, creating a need for further innovation. One strategy to expand the donor pool is using Maastricht category III heart donation after circulatory death (DCD).1 This novel approach involves obtaining the heart from donors with no meaningful chance of survival but who do not meet brain death criteria.
