Elaine Livingstone

I started out as a child actress in Belfast and always imagined I would work in theatre. Later I moved into directing, then discovered classical music and became fascinated by how live music could be presented visually - how sound, image and technology could come together to create something completely different. That curiosity has shaped everything I've done since, particularly my love of bringing artists and ideas from around the world to Glasgow.

I was in the twin towers when the first plane hit. I was living in New York because I had done my art degree there. I had been accepted for a residency in the towers, that had started in June 2001. Our studio was on the 91st floor and we were painting the views from the windows for an exhibition of all the artists work who were taking part. We had 24 hour access. I still remember the day I was given the keys.
