You may have seen the news that a federal judge ruled President Trump’s 2025 executive order defunding NPR and PBS unconstitutional. We want to be clear that the ruling does not restore federal funding to BPR or to any public media organization. Congress voted in July to rescind $1.1 billion — the entire public broadcasting appropriation for FY 2026 and 2027 — defunding public media, locally and nationally.

We have devastating news. Today, in a 51 to 48 vote, the U.S. Senate voted to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting — rescinding $1.1 billion in previously approved funds. For Blue Ridge Public Radio, that means a loss of $330,000 annually. If you called or emailed your lawmakers — thank you. Your voice mattered. But now, we urgently need your support. This is perhaps the most serious financial challenge BPR has ever faced.
