Elhan Afzal was born in Afghanistan in 1984. He is a freelance journalist and former NCA (National Crime Agency) employee at the British Embassy in Kabul. Elhan has a special interest in storytelling and conflict from his home country and recently moved to Scotland, United Kingdom after fleeing Afghanistan. His work has been published in The Times, By The Lines, AOAV (Action on Armed Violence), Daily Beast, Open Democracy, Migrants Voice, Scottish Refugee Council, and the United Nations.

An American man who was abducted more than two years ago while traveling through Afghanistan as a tourist has been released by the Taliban in a deal brokered by U.S. and Qatari negotiators, the State Department said Thursday. George Glezmann, an airline mechanic from Atlanta, is the third American detainee to be released by the Taliban since January.
