Metaproteomics and metagenomics reveal microbial pathways of organic matter degradation and methanogenesis in a marginally producing natural gas well - Communications Earth & Environment
Abstract The expansion of natural gas production and utilization worldwide has led to the decline of many once-productive wells, eventually resulting in costly well-plugging and unused infrastructure. However, in areas like the Michigan basin, MI, where the majority of natural gas is biogenically produced, microbial communities could potentially be stimulated to generate additional methane, increasing gas supply and reducing the need to drill new wells.

This unsung form of public transportation is finally getting its due
Gondolas are frequent, fast, and reliable. And now they’re popping up in cities across the world. In the United States, gondolas (also known as aerial cable cars) have mainly been proposed and developed as a small transportation line serving a private development, like the one proposed for the new Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Levi LaVallee Urban Snowmobiling Video in Saint Paul
Levi Lavallee Urban Snowmobile in Saint Paul Some people see the world as a playground, where anything and everything can and will be a shreddable obstacle. As a kid growing up in Minnesota, Levi LaVallee looked at his state’s capital Saint Paul like a ripe fruit, begging to be plucked, and ripped to shreds on his snowmobile. A land of opportunity that only he could see, it was his mission to take that city over on his trusty sled. Now, he's done it.
Kinco Lined Grained Pigskin with Cuff (#1927)
I’ve been running Kincos since I started patrolling in 1998. They last about a year of ski patrolling and working construction. They’re not waterproof on their own, of course, but I treat the pigskin with mink oil. Just put the gloves on, grab a couple of scoops of oil, smear it around and then put the gloves next to the wood stove. It’s really satisfying. I wear the version with the fireman’s cuff, typically. They ride over my coat.
Modular origins of biological electron transfer chains
There are no physical fossils of the original proteins at the beginning of life on Earth and phylogenetic approaches that infer the nature of the ancestral proteins from sequences and/or structures of extant molecules are of limited use over long time scales (e.g., billions of years).
Can California continue its technological leadership when lack of broadband access leaves some behind?
For much of the digital age, California has been leading the way. Game-changing companies like Facebook, Google and Apple call our state home, while institutions such as Stanford, UC and Caltech supply California, and the world, with leaders in science and innovation. But in a rapidly changing globalized economy, the question remains: can California continue to lead? Success in the modern world depends on access to the latest information and resources, mainly found online.
Ken Roczen Terrafirma 94
In 1995, Jeremy McGrath headed to Castillo Ranch on his 1996 Honda CR250 to record a segment for Fox Racing's film, Terrafirma 2. It became one of the most iconic segments in the one of motocross' biggest and most-renowned movie franchises ever. The then Supercross champ rocketed his bike throughout the Ranch's rolling hills and powered through laps on the Supercross track.
Freeride Enduro in Slow Motion
You’ve seen the full Donner Partying video, now slow the tempo down a bit with the all slow-mo clip, shot in 1200-plus fps, the way only a Phantom camera can. It takes the peak of modern camera technology to capture the symphony of bike skill that Cody Webb and Taylor Robert unleash every time they ride a motorcycle, so here you go. Check out the POV clip and read the riders' thoughts on taking over a Tahoe ski hill.
Riding Moto at a Classic Ski Hill
Cody Webb and Taylor Robert can do absurd, incredible things on motorcycles. Their abilities to control every piece of the motorcycle is akin to the mastery of Mozart or Beethoven — from the suspension to the throttle to the clutch to everything in between, Webb and Robert ride in a symphony of bike skill that is almost entirely lost to the average viewer, because they make it look so easy.
Best Races of 2016 Red Bull Straight Rhythm
Another edition of Red Bull Straight Rhythm has come and gone. 2016 served up the best racing we've ever seen at the world's most unique motocross race. Take a look at four of the most memorable races from Pomona right here: The inclusion of moto's red, white and blue-laden anti-hero Ronnie Mac was the talk of the day on Saturday at Fairplex.
5 Epic Moments from Red Bull Straight Rhythm
The approach to Red Bull Straight Rhythm is always loaded with question marks. It sits right in the middle of the AMA offseason, when riders are changing things up and prepping for next year. It also happens to be a race completely unlike anything else in professional motocross. In 2016, the questions only continued to circle the event, with the inclusion of the Alta Motors electric bike and, of course, the news that Ronnie Mac was coming in.
Red Bull Straight Rhythm 2016 Qualifying Results
POMONA, Calif. – Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin has come out swinging at Red Bull Straight Rhythm 2016, qualifying first with a time of 40.435 seconds just ahead of teammate Ryan Dungey. In the 250 class, Mitchell Oldenberg edged out his Troy Lee Designs KTM teammate Jordon Smith for the top spot in qualifying. Marvin Musquin was incredibly fast in qualifying, obviously taking the top spot over the favorite, Dungey.
Red Bull Straight Rhythm Alta Motors Electric Bike
Today could very well be a glimpse at the future of motocross. Today at Red Bull Straight Rhythm, an electric dirt bike will be raced in professional competition. Alta Motors is set to debut their groundbreaking Alta Redshift MX under the capable hands of former Supercross pro Josh Hill. The brand’s entry is a huge question mark coming into the race this year. Can an electric bike compete against standard factory-level motocross bikes? Josh Hill is a phenomenal Supercross rider.
Ronnie Mac Poaches Red Bull Straight Rhythm Track GoPro
Ronnie Mac plays by no man's rules, other than his own. He likes his beer cold, and his banner star-spangled. On Saturday, the Mac will take to the track at Red Bull Straight Rhythm to settle the score with his most hated archrival, Trevor Piranha. Mac arrived at the Pomona Fairplex a few days early to find the Red Bull Straight Rhythm track fully prepped, and after greasing the locals with one or two adult beverages, managed to work his way onto the course.
Magical Two-Strokes Rip Red Bull Straight Rhythm
The motocross world loves two-strokes, so what better way to celebrate the eve of 2016 Red Bull Straight Rhythm than with a couple of gorgeous YZ125s and two of the most stylish riders in the business? Fasthouse rippers Tyler Bereman and Darryn Durham took to the Red Bull Straight Rhythm qualifier track at Riverfront MX when the sun went down for an epic session on the Fasthouse two-strokes.

Electric Motorcycle Debut at Red Bull Straight Rhythm
An electric bike is going to race professional motocross. 20 years ago, that opening sentence would have been ridiculous. But in 2016, Red Bull Straight Rhythm will play the stage for the debut of an electrically-powered machine racing against factory race equipment. Alta Motors will debut their Redshift MX in the Lites class with former Supercross winner Josh Hill at the helm.
Trey Canard Rides Red Bull KTM 2016

After struggles in 2015 and 2016, the 2010 AMA 250 Pro Motocross champ is ready for a change of scenery in hopes of climbing back to the top in 2017.
Red Bull Straight Rhythm 2016 Trailer
The weirdest race in motocross is back. Racers all over the world grew up with their dads hammering into their heads with one mantra: "Jump for show, corner for dough." Speed and advantage on a normal motocross track is gained in turns. Well, sorry Dad, but not at Red Bull Straight Rhythm. It’s one minute of straight-up Supercross, and it’s glorious. But Straight Rhythm is more than a full sprint — anyone can hold the throttle wide open for a minute straight (pun intended).
Ken Roczen Riding his New 2017 Honda
Does your diet need more Roczen? We've got just what you need right here: The best worst-kept secret in motocross is finally out – Ken Roczen is going red. It was a bit of a controversial topic when the “Roczen to Honda” rumors started gaining serious traction in the pits at the AMA Pro Motocross Nationals. Amidst his most dominant season ever, one where he ultimately won 20 of 24 motos en route to his second 450 Pro Motocross National Championship , how could Roczen want to change the program?
Red Bull Straight Rhythm Supercross Tips and Tricks
Red Bull Straight Rhythm is the weirdest motocross race that has happened. It's an event that takes the formula for a cookie-cutter race and throws it in the garbage. For the racers, it's a breath of fresh air, but also a nerve-wracking changeup to normal race strategy. This race is different, so the formula to win is different. Here's some of the dos and don'ts to winning at Red Bull Straight Rhythm: Red Bull Straight Rhythm returns in 2016 to Pomona Fairplex on Oct.
A Day at the AMA Pro MX Nationals with Ken Roczen
Ken Roczen's switch from Red Bull KTM to the then-unproven RCH Suzuki team was a major head-scratcher at the end of 2014. Ken had just won his first AMA National title against the perpetually strong Ryan Dungey in something of an upset, so it seemed ludicrous that he would switch bikes and teams coming off of such a dream season. But Roczen had a desire to change things up, and he was comfortable moving to the Suzuki. Of course, in 2015, Roczen was far from dominant.
Inside Loretta Lynn's Motocross 2016
Miss part one? Check it out here. In a week at Loretta Lynn’s, top-level riders will ride six motos, three per class. They will have these six motos to prove to the scrutinous eyes of the motocross industry that they are worth the huge investment required to bring a rider to the pro ranks. Most fail, as is the nature of the beast.
Ken Roczen is the 2016 AMA Pro Motocross 450 Champion
In 2005, a short, young rider from Germany came to America to race the USA's top minicycle racers. Very few people stateside had heard the name Ken Roczen. Little did they know, they were getting just a glimpse of a rider who would become one of the sport's most dominant in the world and American championship series. At Budds Creek, Roczen wrapped up his second AMA Pro Motocross 450 National Championship, on the tail end of one of the most dominant runs the series has ever seen.
Behind the Scenes at Loretta Lynn's
Each summer, America’s best young amateur motocross riders descend on the torturous heat and humidity of Hurricane Mills, TN for the AMA Amateur Motocross National Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. While to outsiders it may seem much ado about a simple amateur race, Loretta Lynn’s is the pinnacle of non-professional motocross and the last stepping stone before the pro ranks for the graduating class of am racers.
KTM125 Two-Stroke POV at 2016 Loretta Lynn's Motocross
Last week, the American motocross community took a few days to shine the spotlight on the amateur scene, as the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships went down at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. With 10,000-plus racers and campers taking over the ranch for an entire week, it's a motocross race with the feel of a music festival where the instruments are replaced by the sweet sounds of motorcycles, much to the delight of America's moto audiophiles.
Behind the Scenes Moto Spy
The AMA Pro Motocross Championship is serious business. You know; you've seen it all go down in MX Nation on Red Bull TV . Riders dedicate their lives to becoming the best in the world's most grueling offroad race series, and coming out on top only happens with incredibly hard work, solid resources and a lot of luck. But at the end of the day, motocross racers are just a bunch of dudes who like riding motorcycles. They work hard, but they play harder.
The Impossible James Stewart Quiz
James Stewart is one of the most talked about riders in motocross. Since his pro debut in 2002, Stewart has been a consistent topic of discussion in pits at tracks all over the world. But how much does the world really know about James Stewart? The quiz below should weed out about 99 percent of them. If you pass this, you are the truest of true moto aficionados.
Justin Bogle Racing at Red Bud
Professional motocross can be a fickle bitch. Each spot under a factory team’s awning is worth its weight in gold, or carbon fiber as seems to be the trend these days at the track. The unfortunate truth is that riders are only as good as their results. It's a conundrum as old as the sport — when everything seems to be good, but the results are not, what is the problem? Moto Spy episode 4 follows GEICO Honda’s sole 450 entry Justin Bogle in the midst of his rookie season in the premier class.
Bryce Menzies New Frontier Set to Jump Ghost Town 2016
The Old West was a world of pushing the envelope. It dealt inhabitants a life of pushing limits, and moving forward. It became the symbolic backbone of American progression in the 19th century, and represents an ideal that still reigns true in modern society. A true American, Bryce Menzies is no stranger to constantly chasing progress.
Aaron Plessinger at Muddy Creek
They say home is where you make it (Source: Joe Dirt). In motocross, riders all have their favorite tracks. As Josh Grant welcomes the Glen Helen National every year, Aaron Plessinger eagerly ticks off the days on his calendar until the Muddy Creek National in Tennessee. Though he is an Ohio native, the Yamaha’s star sophomore spent most of his teen years south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and thus raced countless laps on the tacky Tennessee soil of Muddy Creek.
How Motocross Gave Ryan Dungey the Body Issue Body
Motocross riders hear it all the time – it’s not an athletic sport if it has a motor. It’s a mainstream conception that has spurred thousands if not millions of petty arguments in high school cafeterias all over the world. Motocross riders have fought the losing battle of trying to communicate how difficult their sport is for decades.
Moto Spy Behind the Scenes
There’s nothing quite like the home field advantage. In the realm of motocross, it’s not something that one rider always has – there’s no home and away team out there on the track. But through the 12 rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Nationals, there are certain tracks that are known for having some of the fastest locals around. Sometimes, especially in California, those locals are the guys under the awnings of the full factory teams.
Fastest Pit Stop in Formula 1 2016
It was nearly three years ago that Red Bull Racing lit the not-so-gigantic world of F1 pit stops on fire with a pit stop in 1.923 seconds, the fastest ever in the sport. While the record still stands, it was teased this past weekend at the Baku GP , where the Williams Mercedes team matched the 1.92 mark during Nico Rosberg 's stop on his way to yet another GP win. Williams has actually produced the fastest pit stop at all eight GPs so far in 2016.
Motorcycle Racing's Greatest Father-Son Duos
It’s no secret that the bond between father and son is rock solid in the motorcycling world — it often takes a dad who was a motorcycle racer to get a kid on two wheels with mom’s approval. In motocross and road racing, fathers and sons litter the pits, and some of those teams have dominated generations of motorcycling’s premier titles. Here’s a look at a few of them: MORE: Check out the duality of the father-son relationship in AMA Pro Motocross in episode 2 of MX Nation.
Moto Spy Shadows Tristan Charboneau at Hangtown MX 2016
What is it like to be an AMA professional motocross racer? At the sport’s highest stage, what separates the pretty-damn-goods from the greats? We all see the races, and the podium champagne spraying the eager, sunburnt fans, but what is the day really like for the sport’s greatest racers?
Michael Dunlop POV Fastest Lap Ever at Isle of Man TT
Each year, a very unique subset of the motorcycle racing world descends on the Isle of Man, a small, self-governing land in the middle of the Irish Sea, for the Isle of Man TT. It’s one of the fastest — and most dangerous — motorcycle races on the planet. The race takes over the town and country streets, in a course spanning 37.73 miles. It’s not a race for the faint of heart – the risk of a catastrophic crash is higher here than at just about any other Superbike race in the world.
Tom Pagès Won X Games QuarterPipe Twice in One Day
Tom Pagès is no stranger to making monumental headlines in freestyle motocross, and while it's no surprise that he won yet another gold medal in X Games Moto X QuarterPipe in Austin, the way that he did it was the type of moment that comes few and far between in the world of motocross and action sports. Dig insane FMX tricks? Check out Tom Pagès's ridiculous front flair right here.

The Biggest Purse Races in American Motorsports
America loves motorsports, and America loves money. Even more so, America loves quick money. The “get rich quick” dream is one at least slightly engrained in just about every mind in the land of the free. Race series throughout the world like Formula 1 and MotoGP can mean big money for drivers, riders, and teams, but here in America, there are a few single events that yield incredible paydays for the guys at the top of the podium.
