It’s the first time the African Climate Foundation has had a presence at Philea Forum, Europe’s annual gathering of European philanthropy professionals. This year, some 800 participants are in attendance, and the executive director of the six-year-old African Climate Foundation is amongst them to try to get a message across to Europe: work with us. Alliance caught up with Saliem Fakir ahead of a panel he spoke on about reimagining philanthropy’s role in Africa’s just transition.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s annual Prize for Humanity recognises individuals and organisations driving extraordinary climate action. The €1 million award is given to grantees no-strings-attached with minimal reporting requirements. The Foundation, along with four prize winners from the last six years, reflect on the impact of the Prize for Humanity in climate work.

The Bezos Earth Fund believes AI will be a solution to the climate crisis. According to the Fund, it is ‘harnessing [AI’s] power to transform how the world addresses climate and nature’. The $10 billion Fund was established in 2020 by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to ‘fight climate change and protect nature’, according to its website. The Fund will spend down by 2030, stating the 2020s are ‘the decisive decade’. As of early 2025, it had reportedly spent $2.3 billion.
