People with epilepsy want to know about sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Health care providers (HCPs) may not discuss SUDEP due to fear of causing emotional distress, as well as lack of training, lack of knowledge, and clinical constraints. Three themes emerged from studies of SUDEP communication. (1) Personalization: discussions should be contextualized to the recipient, focusing on personal risk factors and context, conducted with a trusted source.
