Peter and Lucy wanted to house three generations under one roof, to enjoy grandparenthood, without having to compromise on freedom, differing needs and privacies of each generation.Peter is a fan of concrete architecture. Part of the brief was for a tropical house in reinforced concrete, a deck to rest and gaze upon the scenery of the neighbourhood, white internal walls, with minimum openings to the front and the side for privacy and noise control.

The terraced house is located in a housing project from '58 in Wondelgem, Belgium. The project has the typical combination of identical row houses with alternately mirrored ground plans. All of them have a single-storey extension and a semi-private road at the back of the plot connecting the various garages and garden storages.

The clients were living on a rural property east of Seattle but found themselves drawn back to the growing vibrancy and culture of the city. They loved the peaceful setting of their old home with its quietness and easy indoor/outdoor living but it was oversized for two people and two small dogs.
