In the eastern Armenian village of Tsaghkunk, an abandoned canteen for Soviet workers is now serving some of Armenia’s most progressive heritage cuisine. Tsaghkunk Restaurant was once a lunch stop for local growers and cattle farmers. The building sat abandoned for around 40 years, before ex-diplomat and businessman Hrachya Aghajanyan restored it lovingly into a dining room for modern Armenian gastronomy.

The Hall of Mosses, a looped hiking trail in Washington State’s Hoh Rain Forest, is known for a kind of otherworldly lusciousness. Vibrant ferns line misty paths. The roots of centuries-old trees tangle around each other, forming miniature mazes. Most spectacularly, soft moss coats the towering Sitka spruce trees, drooping in fringed curtains from the branches. It’s awe-inspiring, but there’s more wonder in store.

Heavy Rain Brought Spectacular Waterfalls to Australia's Most Famous Rock

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, home of the titular big red desert rock in the middle of Australia, gets about a foot of rain a year. On Sunday, March 22, it got a big chunk of its annual dose in under 24 hours, resulting in spectacular sights around the sandstone behemoth that is Uluru. “While it rains, and for around 30 minutes afterward, waterfalls cascade down the rock face,” says a Parks Australia spokesperson. At 1,142 feet (348 meters), Uluru stands taller than the Chrysler building.
