We live in the age of performative inclusion and the political destruction of DEI. Newsrooms, late-night shows and political figures discuss the impact and relevance of diversity, equity and disability rights as casually as a morning routine. And yet some of the most ordinary forms of difference: speech patterns; remain fair game for mockery. The very media class that claims moral authority over compassion often reveals its real morals through whom it allows itself to laugh at.

In a city just south of Seoul, the government is ordering cafés to erase English from their signs. In France, Le Académie Française continues to issue new warnings against the use of Franglais. Meanwhile, in the U.K., the Oxford English Dictionary adds over fifty Korean and Japanese words to its pages. And Spanish Royalty decrees that English words should also be added to its dictionary.

Since WWII, America has been the world’s cultural superpower. During that time America unintentionally discovered that sending a navy boat full of ice cream to its soldiers in the Pacific (Siegel, 2018) or air dropping chocolate to children in Berlin (Eschner, 2017) opened a lot of doors not just politically but most importantly economically.
