A 26-year-old Venezuelan asylum seeker continues to be detained at Arizona's Eloy Detention Center, two months after a government attorney admitted in a District Court filing that the woman has protected status in the U.S. and cannot be detained based on her immigration status. Erianny Rodriguez Balza fled Venezuela in 2019, after she was assaulted and threatened by armed paramilitary agents for her participation in anti-government protests, according to her asylum petition.
