Callaway County presiding commissioner hopefuls have different long-range visions for the county. Callaway County voters will choose a Republican candidate for presiding commissioner in the Aug. 4 primary election from three hopefuls -- Rob Barnes, Clay Chism and Larry Robinson. The prevailing Republican candidate will then face Democrat Mike Conner in the Nov. 3 general election.

Two individuals were recognized as the inaugural Legends Wall of Fame honorees during Tuesday's Fulton City Council meeting. Parks and Recreation Superintendent Sharlene McArtor said the Wall of Legends will "highlight community members and recognize the impact that they've made in this community." The park board selects honorees through community nominations. The 2026 honorees are Arnold Ray "Bake" McBride and Carl Lee. They were nominated by Rose Galbreath and Denzel Weaver, respectively.

The Fulton Human Rights Commission presented the 2026 Jane Bierdeman-Fike Humanitarian Award to Jan Finke. Finke received the award during Tuesday's Fulton City Council meeting. Commission member Tom Clapp said the award honors "a woman who has been a great humanitarian for the community." "I will add in all that (Finke has) done, she's done it in partnership with a wonderful husband, Alan, so you get a little credit for this too, even though it's Jan's name on this fine plaque," Clapp said.
