A new tool has been launched to help pharmacy teams resolve smartcard access issues more quickly, Community Pharmacy England (CPE) has said. CPE said the online tool aims to ‘reduce delays’ searching for smartcard support, particularly when staff are working across different pharmacy sites, have recently moved between pharmacies, or when urgent access is needed to continue patient care.

GPhC publishes new training standards for pharmacy technicians

New standards for the education and training of pharmacy technicians have been published by the independent sector regulator. The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) training standards increase the minimum level of study from level three, equivalent to A-levels, to level four, equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree. They also require trainee pharmacy technicians to demonstrate competence in ‘final accuracy checking’ before registration.

RSV maternal vaccine programme halves newborn intensive care admissions, data suggests

The number of infants under six months old being admitted to intensive care with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has halved since the maternal vaccine programme began, new data suggests. The UK Health Security Agency’s (UKHSA) annual RSV report showed that 63 infants under six months old were admitted to intensive care units (ICU) or higher dependency units (HDU) with RSV last winter across the 20 NHS trusts taking part in the surveillance.
