1. Introduction Globally, the number of deaths, incident cases, and disability-adjusted life-years caused by pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has more than doubled from 1990 to 2017, and the increase in its incidence is likely to continue as the population ages [ 1 ]. PDAC is the seventh leading cause of cancer death in both sexes worldwide, and it is estimated that, by 2030, it will be the second cause of death from cancer in the United States of America [ 2 , 3 ].
