I'm Emma Davis, Co-Founder and Editor of PreMarket Daily (premarketdaily.com), an independent U.S. financial markets publication delivering daily pre-market equity analysis, earnings coverage, and macroeconomic commentary for active traders and serious investors.

I founded PreMarket Daily around a single conviction: active traders deserve rigorous, data-grounded pre-market intelligence before the 9:30 AM ET open — without a paywall. I oversee the publication's editorial direction, coverage stan…

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Once, at a journalism workshop years ago — more as a novelty than a practical exercise. The instructor's point was that the constraint of not being able to delete forces a certain clarity of thought before you commit words to the page. I understood the lesson even if I never adopted the tool. There's something to be said for that discipline in financial publishing — the pre-market window doesn't give you the luxury of endless revision either. You write it right the first time or you miss the open.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Christiane Amanpour once said the only way to do journalism is to go where the story is. That's not fictional, but the journalist I keep coming back to fictionally is Lou Grant — the old-school editor who believed the job was to get it right, not to get it first. Running an independent financial publication in 2026, that tension between speed and accuracy is something I navigate every single trading day. Lou Grant would have hated the pre-market news cycle. I think about that more than I should.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#JustFedThings. It started circulating during one of the more confusing FOMC press conferences a few years back — the one where Powell managed to simultaneously signal both a pause and a hike depending on which sentence you were reading. Traders were losing their minds trying to parse the statement in real time and someone just started tagging every contradictory headline with #JustFedThings. It perfectly captured the experience of covering monetary policy for an audience that needs a clear answer in the next five minutes. The Fed has an extraordinary talent for saying a great deal while confirming very little, and that hashtag understood the assignment completely.
