The person who wants to make an Employment Tribunal claim must usually contact the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) first. This is known as early conciliation. The claimant provides Acas with basic information about their claim. If both parties want to conciliate, a support officer will facilitate discussions and can help them to reach an agreed settlement. There is no obligation to engage in early conciliation, and it may not resolve the dispute.
