Kevin Rombout had been working hard to advance a gold mine in northwestern Ontario. By September 2024, the deputy director of policy for the provincial Ministry of Mines had briefed staff in Premier Doug Ford’s office, exchanged emails with Kinross, the publicly-traded company pushing for the mine, and directed bureaucrats at multiple ministries on how to advance the project.

Toronto police arrest 6 people at record Walk With Israel event in North York

UJA has been organizing the walk since 1970, but the event has been subject to more scrutiny since October 2023, when the terrorist group Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel. The assault left about 1,200 people dead and hundreds taken hostage. Israel responded with air strikes and a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, killing more than 70,000 Palestinians. Ahead of Sunday’s walk, Toronto police said they expected counter-protesters at the walk as there have been in the last few years.
