The Second Annual Spring Market is coming back to Brookings
March 19, 2024 Brookings Inn and Convention Center is hosting the 2nd Annual Spring Market event this Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes for this and Tamra Misner is to thank! The Scots battled hard all night long and stuck with Saint Mary's but were taken down in the final quarter by a final score of 16-13. The Belles took an early lead over the Scots as Saint Mary's scored two consecutive goals in the first quarter.

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a matchup against Saint Mary's College (IN) at Bahlke Field on Friday, April 28th. The Scots battled hard with the current three seed in the MIAA and came away with a dramatic overtime victory, 17-16, heading into tournament play. Saint Mary's jumped out with an early offensive pressure and tallied the first two goals of the game.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team traveled to Indiana on Friday, April 21st for a primetime MIAA matchup with the Trine Thunder. In a game that had several lead changes and multiple runs of momentum on offense, Alma came away victorious 16-14. This was Alma's first win over Trine since April of 2017.

Alma notched the first goal of the game early in the contest as Emma Keith scored with a man-up opportunity 95 seconds into the game on a free position shot.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Alma College women's lacrosse team continued their non-conference slate of their schedule in Minnesota on Friday, March 10th. The Scots took on Augsburg University in Minneapolis and came away victorious with a wire-to-wire win, 20-3. The Scots were able to open the scoring early with Sam Peterson breaking the ice on a pass from Olivia Bunce to put Alma on the board.

NPS says school safety top of mind despite claims in February incident
As districts across the country reel from the shockwaves of another mass school shooting, a Norman Public Schools administrator said the district has almost fully completed its bond-funded school safety measures. Even still, school safety is frequently on administrators’ minds. After a gunman killed 19 students and two adults in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, conversations about school safety and solutions are again top of mind for parents, students, politicians and administrators.
Norman Regional plans for Southeast Norman facility opening this fall, topping out this week
Norman residents will have access to a new freestanding emergency room in a fast-developing part of the city as soon as this fall, Norman Regional leadership says. Norman Regional Health System is planning and executing multiple expansion projects as part of its Inspire Health Initiative. CASP to close in May after 48 years serving Norman students

Coalition helping Afghan families resettle in Norman
Over the last few months, a group of families has quietly made Norman their new home. Since the United States pulled out of Afghanistan last fall, Oklahoma has received just over 1,800 Afghan refugees, CAIR Oklahoma reported last month. Eight Afghan families and one individual have resettled in Norman with the help of the Norman Coalition for Refugee Support and its partners.
Ruggiers wins out over Snell for NPS Board of Education seat
Alex Ruggiers will be the next member of the Norman Public Schools Board of Education after beating out opponent Dan Snell — the incumbent of 25 years — in Tuesday’s runoff. Ruggiers will take the Office No. 2 board seat with 64.18% of the vote at 90% of precincts reporting; Snell nabbed 35.82% of the vote. The candidates went to Tuesday’s runoff race after neither received a majority of the vote in Norman’s February election.
Norman Pride bringing festival, parade, 5k and more this May
Norman Pride will return this May for its first festival in three years, honoring LGBTQ+ Oklahomans with a weekend of celebration. Organizers have set Norman’s 2022 Pride Weekend for May 6-8, with a slate of events that includes a Friday kickoff, a Saturday festival and a Sunday parade.
OU Regents approve fee increase for STEM classes, talk performance-based pay raises
University of Oklahoma students in certain STEM classes will see $40/credit hour fee increases in the coming school year after the Board of Regents approved the increase Wednesday. Students taking undergraduate classes in engineering, earth and energy, atmospheric and geographic sciences, architecture, chemistry and biochemistry, biology, microbiology and plant biology, health and exercise science and physics and astronomy will see the fee increase in those courses.

Dan Snell, Alex Ruggiers head to runoff election in school board race
Norman school board candidates Alex Ruggiers and Dan Snell will head to a runoff election in early April after no candidate secured the majority of the vote Tuesday. Snell received 32.87% of the vote and Ruggiers 45.06% in Tuesday’s election. The two will compete in an April 5 runoff election for the Norman Public Schools Board of Education Office No. 2 seat.
Chemise Stancle focusing on student safety, more in run for NPS school board
Chemise Stancle is looking to combine her passion for working with children and her desire to get involved in local politics by running for a seat on Norman Public Schools’ Board of Education. Stancle, a mother to a Whittier Middle School student, is a University of Oklahoma graduate and works as a cosmetologist. She also became an alternative certified teacher several years ago and has substituted at the elementary and middle school levels, she said.
