Dear Editor: Previous reports in the Journal of Infection have highlighted the genetic diversity of African swine fever virus (ASFV), which is the causative agent of African swine fever (ASF).1,2 ASF first emerged in Kenya in 1921, and has remained endemic to Africa until now. In 2007, the genotype II ASFV was discovered in Georgia and is now endemic in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe, resulting in serious economic losses (https://www.woah.org).
