Quasi-Global Search Behaviour of Large-Step Gradient-Based Optimization in Full Waveform Inversion
1 Introduction Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a highly accurate method for estimating subsurface velocity models. It iteratively updates the velocity model to minimize the misfit between simulated and observed seismic data (Tarantola 1984). However, FWI is fundamentally a highly nonconvex optimization problem: its loss landscape contains numerous local minima caused by cycle skipping and the complex reflectivity of the subsurface (Bunks et al.

Synaptic κ-Ga 2 O 3 Photodetectors for Privacy-Enhancing Neuromorphic Computing
1 Introduction The rapid proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) is driving the deployment of vast numbers of distributed sensing nodes across application domains ranging from smart infrastructure and industrial automation to environmental monitoring and healthcare. As the volume and dimensionality of data generated at the network edge continue to increase, conventional cloud-centric computing architectures face growing challenges related to latency, energy consumption, and data privacy.
A Deep Learning-Based Time Shift Objective Function for Full Waveform Inversion
1 Introduction Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a technique aimed at inverting seismic data for a high-resolution subsurface model by matching simulated and observed seismograms. Due to the oscillatory nature of seismic recordings and the use of gradient-based numerical optimization schemes, the highly nonlinear and ill-posed nature of FWI can lead to solutions falling into local minima, thus likely failing to recover a geologically plausible subsurface model.
Evidence of Avian Predation on a Critically Endangered Elasmobranch, the Halavi Guitarfish ( Glaucostegus halavi ), in the Red Sea
The Halavi guitarfish (Glaucostegus halavi, Forsskål 1775) is a regionally endemic batoid found in the northwestern Indian Ocean (Last et al. 2016). This species is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List (Kyne and Jabado 2019), likely due to the targeted fishing of Rhinopristiformes across much of its range (Jabado 2018; Spaet and Berumen 2015). Despite growing conservation concern, most available data are limited to fish market records or opportunistic sightings (Garzon et al.
KAUSTSat: Saudi Arabia's First Hyperspectral CubeSat Mission for Earth Observation

Distributed Acoustic Sensing Denoising Using a Self‐supervised Conditional Diffusion Model
1 Introduction Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) represents an innovative technology that has the potential to supplement traditional geophones in seismic data acquisition (Hartog 2017). The DAS interrogator transmits laser pulses through fibre optic cables; imperfections and inhomogeneities within the fibre lead to scattering of the laser signals.
Internal Tide Variability in the Arabian Sea Simulated by a High‐Resolution Model With Realistic Forcing
1 Introduction Internal tides are a crucial energy source for the internal wave field of the ocean, generated by the interaction of barotropic tidal currents with topographic features such as continental slopes, seamounts, and mid-ocean ridges (Carter et al., 2008; Egbert & Ray, 2003; Laurent et al., 2003; Zhao et al., 2016). Compared to surface tides, internal tides have larger isopycnal displacements and shorter horizontal wavelengths (Dushaw et al., 1995; Ray & Mitchum, 1996).
Exploration of Copper Halide Linear‐Array Detector Prototype for Security Checks
1 Introduction Scintillator-mediated X-ray detectors are critical for applications in medical diagnostics, as well as industrial and security inspections [1-5]. Currently, scintillator-mediated X-ray detectors can be classified into flat-panel and linear-array detectors based on the configuration of sensor array pixels to meet the demands of different scenarios [6-9].

Only One Percent of Important Shark and Ray Areas in the Western Indian Ocean Are Fully Protected From Fishing Pressure
1 Introduction Ongoing biodiversity loss driven by human activities has been described as the onset of a sixth global mass extinction (Cowie et al. 2022), with the recent disappearance of particularly vulnerable species potentially foreshadowing broader losses (Keck et al. 2025). Many chondrichthyans (sharks, rays, and chimaeras) are experiencing severe population declines primarily caused by overfishing, with the global abundance of the entire class reduced by half since 1970 (Dulvy et al. 2024).

Genetic Divergence and Isolation of the Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) in the Red Sea
1 Introduction Green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas, Linnaeus, 1758) inhabit tropical and subtropical latitudes (Lutz et al. 2002). Due to life history traits such as long lifespans and their highly migratory nature (Lohmann et al. 1999), sea turtles have increased susceptibility to threats (Wallace et al. 2011), such as fisheries bycatch (López-Mendilaharsu et al. 2020), boat strikes (Shimada et al. 2017), direct take (Joseph et al. 2019; Pheasey et al. 2021) and coastal development (Goldberg et al. 2015).

Slope assisted Physics‐informed neural networks for seismic signal separation with applications on ground roll removal and interpolation
INTRODUCTION The local slope of prestack seismic data completely describes the geometry of the seismic arrivals within the trace gather. By estimating local event slopes it is possible to accomplish most of the common time-domain imaging tasks, from the normal moveoutcorrection to prestack time migration, without the need to estimate seismic velocities or other seismic attributes (Fomel, 2007).
