In February 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine turned my world upside down. Although I moved to the UK in 2004, to study and become a primary school teacher, I was born in Zaporizhzhia, a Russian-speaking industrial city in southeastern Ukraine. When the invasion began, my first instinct was to rush back to Ukraine and help in any way I could.

New research proves girls’ schools’ “ongoing dominance” in inspiring young women into STEM subjects and careers, the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA) has said. A report, commissioned by the GSA – The Academic Attainment and Representation of Girls in STEM – found that girls in all-girls sixth forms were four times as likely to apply for mathematics courses at university and 40 per cent more likely to apply for engineering courses than their co-educated peers.

The 14 winners of ISC Research’s International School Awards 2025 have been announced, with schools from across the globe being celebrated for a range of exciting initiatives. From a tea-production programme to reduce poverty in China to events to improve the health of local people in Nigeria, the scope of the projects has been both ambitious and wide-ranging.
