Kerrville police to release 911 calls from deadly July 4 flooding Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Kerrville Police Department revealed Thursday the agency will release unredacted audio of the 911 calls from the deadly flooding over the July 4 weekend. This will happen as a result of Freedom of Information Act requests from eight media outlets, including KXAN. In a video message posted on the Kerrville Police Facebook page, Chief Chris McCall cautioned people in the community about why this action was going to happen.
Another Waymo driverless vehicle cited for passing a stopped school bus, AISD says
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Another Waymo driverless car was cited for illegally passing a stopped school bus on Dec. 1, the Austin Independent School District confirmed to KXAN Thursday. That’s the company’s 20th violation this school year. This comes after KXAN Investigates obtained video of other violations dating back to the third day of school. A Waymo spokesperson told KXAN Thursday it implemented software updates on Nov. 17 to solve the issue.
Man accused of assaulting 6-year-old with baseball bat found not guilty by reason of insanity Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 41-year-old man was found not guilty by reason of insanity on a capital murder charge of a person under 10 after he was accused of assaulting a 6-year-old with a baseball bat in Georgetown in September 2023. The child later died from his injuries in November 2023. According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Daniel Logan, broke into his neighbors’ Georgetown home and allegedly assaulted the boy.
City of Elgin announces new city manager Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city of Elgin announced it has a new city manager, Robert Eads, who has been the interim city manager since September, according to a news release. The announcement comes after Elgin City Council made the announcement following an executive session discussion Tuesday. Eads will be officially sworn in as the city manager during the Dec. 16 scheduled city council meeting, according to the city.

Austin Water celebrates replacement of 110-year-old reservoir
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Water celebrated the completion of the North Austin Reservoir and Pump Station Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting, as the 110-year-old reservoir was replaced. The new, 8-million-gallon reservoir and pump station replaced the old one, which provides 50 million gallons of water per day, according to Austin Water. This reservoir is one of 38 in the system.

Man arrested, accused of breaking into Quantum Pain and Orthopedics in Round Rock Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 41-year-old man was arrested and accused of burglary after police said he broke into a business in Round Rock on Sunday, according to the Round Rock Police Department. Rogelio Daniel Casas, of Round Rock, was arrested and charged with “one count of burglary of a building, one count of unlawful use of a criminal instrument, and an outstanding burglary warrant,” in a news release Monday. AUSTIN (KXAN) — A boil water notice was issued for some in western Travis County Tuesday due to “turbidity” found in the filtered water. That means the water looks cloudy or opaque. “This does not automatically mean there are harmful germs in the water, but it could mean the filters were not working as well as they should. When turbidity is too high, it can make it harder for the disinfection process to kill organisms that could make people sick,” the water company said.
AFD investigating shed fire at apartment complex on Rutland Drive Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department is investigating a shed fire that happened near an apartment building in north Austin Tuesday morning. AFD said on social media around 2 a.m. that crews responded to the fire at the Creeks Edge Apartments, 1124 Rutland Drive. That’s near Rundberg Lane. While the fire did spread to the side of the apartment building, it did not spread further, according to officials.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department seeks public help finding a 24-year-old woman who was last seen Sunday in southwest Austin. Rawand Almadi was last seen leaving H-E-B at 5800 West Slaughter Lane on Sunday around 4 p.m., APD said in a news release Monday. “Rawand was last seen wearing a brown hijab around her head, a blue jean jacket, a long black skirt, and carrying a red handbag,” police said.
Runoff election for Buda City Council seat set for Dec. 13 Original

The candidates running for the city council seat are: KXAN reported that Goodman and Morales both received about 43% of the vote in the November election. Elizabeth Ann Webb was last seen around 11:30 p.m. at Walgreens, located at 6200 W. William Cannon Drive, according to APD. APD described Webb as a white woman, 5 feet 1 inch, 108 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair.
Man sentenced to 15 years connected with deadly San Marcos crash Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter connected with a deadly crash that happened in December 2022 in San Marcos, according to the Hays County District Attorney’s Office. That man was identified as Royce Robison. In addition to an intoxication manslaughter charge, he was also sentenced for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to the DA’s office, both of these sentences will run concurrently.
APD officer gets case dismissed, must provide ICAT training as condition Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police Officer Karl Krycia, who was charged with murder in the 2019 shooting death of Mauris Silva, had his case dismissed Friday by the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. The dismissal stems from the condition that Krycia will provide training, if asked by APD, called Integrating Communications, Assessment, and Tactics (ICAT), per a news release from the DA’s office.

Once those statements are received, residents have until Jan. 31, 2026, to “pay property taxes without penalty or interest,” according to a news release from Travis County. Man sentenced to 218 years in prison on multiple counts of child sex assault Original
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 44-year-old man was sentenced to 218 years in prison by a Hays County District Court judge earlier this month after he was found guilty on multiple child sex assault charges, according to a news release from the Hays County District Attorney’s Office. Richard Santa Ana was found guilty on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact, according to the DA’s office.

Fire department celebrates milestone of Fire Station 10 construction in Round Rock Original

In the letter, the principal said someone reported the student “who engaged in a fight had a weapon” at the south Austin high school. “Officers immediately engaged with the student, confirmed they had a gun and immediately arrested the student,” the letter said.

Shortly before 4 p.m., Oct. 23, the robbery happened after the alleged suspect “attempted to steal merchandise” from the grocery store, located at 12407 N. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city of Manor reported a water main break after a contractor “accidentally hit” the water line in the city near Gregg Lane, according to the city. The city said on social media that residents on the northeast side of U.S. 290 “will experience lower-than-normal water pressure.” This means that Mustang Valley “will be shut off entirely due to an isolated water leak.” “Gregg Lane will be partially closed as we address a significant water main break near the road,” the city said.
