Kinetic Theory of Decentralized Learning for Smart Active Matter
Smart active matter has the ability to control its motion guided by individual policies to achieve collective goals. We introduce a theoretical framework to study a decentralized learning process in which agents can locally exchange policies to adapt their behavior and maximize a predefined reward function. We use our formalism to derive explicit hydrodynamic equations for the policy dynamics.

Protocol dependence for avalanches under constant stress in elastoplastic models
Close to the yielding transition, amorphous solids exhibit a jerky dynamics characterized by plastic avalanches. The statistics of these avalanches have been measured experimentally and numerically using a variety of different triggering protocols, assuming that all of them were equivalent for this purpose. In particular, two main classes of protocols have been studied, deformation under controlled strain or under controlled stress.
L’ab-sens politique
Nonlinear dielectric response in glass formers: Restoring forces and avoided spin-glass criticality
Experimental measurements of nonlinear dielectric response in glass formers like supercooled glycerol or propylene carbonate have been interpreted as providing evidence for a growing thermodynamic length scale when lowering temperature.
Behavioral transition of a fish school in a crowded environment
In open water, social fish gather to form schools, in which fish generally align with each other. In this work, we study how this social behavior evolves when perturbed by artificial obstacles. We measure the behavior of a group of zebrafish in the presence of a periodic array of pillars. When the pillar density is low, the fish regroup with a typical interdistance and a well-polarized state with parallel orientations, similarly to their behavior in open-water conditions.
Tailoring the overlap distribution in driven mean-field spin models
In a statistical physics context, inverse problems consist of determining microscopic interactions such that a system reaches a predefined collective state. A complex collective state may be prescribed by specifying the overlap distribution between microscopic configurations, a notion originally introduced in the context of disordered systems like spin glasses.

1. Introduction The Lac Télé Community Reserve (LTCR), with coordinates 01°11′ N 17°13′ E, is a category VI protected area, according to the IUCN classification, and is primarily managed by the Congolese State through the Congolese Agency for Wildlife and Protected Areas (ACFAP). Thanks to the LTCR Support Project, ongoing since 2001, it also benefits from the support of the American NGO Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in the management of the protected area [].
Discontinuous phase transition from ferromagnetic to oscillating states in a nonequilibrium mean-field spin model
We study a nonequilibrium ferromagnetic mean-field spin model exhibiting a phase with spontaneous temporal oscillations of the magnetization, on top of the usual paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases. This behavior is obtained by introducing dynamic field variables coupled to the spins through nonreciprocal couplings.
Microscopically grounded constitutive model for dense suspensions of soft particles below jamming
Abstract We derive from particle-level dynamics a constitutive model describing the rheology of two-dimensional dense soft suspensions below the jamming transition, in a regime where hydrodynamic interactions between particles are screened. Based on a statistical description of particle dynamics, we obtain through a set of physically plausible approximations a nonlinear tensorial evolution equation for the deviatoric part of the stress tensor, involving the strain rate and vorticity tensors.
Nonequilibrium Phase Transition to Temporal Oscillations in Mean-Field Spin Models
Abstract We propose a mean-field theory to describe the nonequilibrium phase transition to a spontaneously oscillating state in spin models. A nonequilibrium generalization of the Landau free energy is obtained from the joint distribution of the magnetization and its smoothed stochastic time derivative. The order parameter of the transition is a Hamiltonian, whose nonzero value signals the onset of oscillations.
Absorbing phase transitions in systems with mediated interactions
Abstract Experiments of periodically sheared colloidal suspensions or soft amorphous solids display a transition from reversible to irreversible particle motion that, when analyzed stroboscopically in time, is interpreted as an absorbing phase transition with infinitely many absorbing states. In these systems, interactions mediated by hydrodynamics or elasticity are present, causing passive regions to be affected by nearby active ones.
Improvement of dyspnea after bariatric surgery is associated with increased Expiratory Reserve Volume: A prospective follow-up study of 45 patients
Ninety percent of patients were dyspneic before surgery (mMRC scale ? 1) versus 59% after surgery (p<0.001). Mean mMRC score improved after bariatric surgery (1.5 ± 0.9 vs 0.7 ± 0.7, p<0.0001). Among patients with dyspnea before surgery (n = 38), a more marked increase in ERV after surgery was observed in patients with improvement of dyspnea compared to patients with no improvement of dyspnea (+0.17 ± 0.32 L vs +0.49 ± 0.35 L, p = 0.01).
