Quiz Bowl Heading to Nationals
Woodland’s Quiz Bowl team is nationals bound! After having to end their season early last year and not being able to participate in any tournaments, this year’s Quiz Bowl team has come back with a vengeance. The team is advised by Mama Manning and is co-captained by juniors Colin Slavin and Eric Meade.
Good Governance: Meeting again, for the first time
How to return to in-person board meetings and retreats as the COVID-19 pandemic winds down It’s April 2021 and your board retreat approaches. Half of your board members—and all of those over 65 or with chronic health conditions—have received a COVID-19 vaccine. New COVID-19 cases have dropped below 60,000 a day nationwide, and the positivity rate in your state is below 5%. Board members debate the precautions they will take to meet in person. One member says she will participate remotely.
Indoor Track Making the Best of the Season
Indoor track is the exact opposite of what COVID regulations will allow; normally at this time in the season, the indoor track team would be meeting six days a week in the halls of Woodland for practice and traveling to one of the state’s large indoor facilities with about 45 other teams for meets. Even if you’re an above-average board, the likelihood is that your credit union has no formal development program for officers.
Owning Power in the Social Sector
Power has a mixed history in the social sector. Early on, many organizations addressing issues like poverty, health, or the environment adopted internal processes that reflected the inclusion and collaboration they sought to create in the world. During the 1980s and 1990s, however, many put in place more-hierarchical structures in an effort to further professionalize their management approach and to better steward their resources.
How Ethiopia is Scaling Midwifery to Save More Mothers, Newborns
Addis Ababa- In Ethiopia there are 4.9 million pregnancies each year of which 84% take place in rural areas. Here in Ethiopia, where the vast majority of women deliver at home, only 32% of maternal, newborn and child health needs are being met by midwives according to the newly released State of Midwifery Report. That is troubling for a country that is making noticeable strides to save its women and children, including reaching Millennium Development Goal 4 last year.
