How is social media changing news?

In some ways its diluting the work of true journalism; in other ways its supplementing it necessarily and critically.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To craft a story in such a way that the reader has no other desire in life but to proceed to the next sentence.

Why did you become a journalist?

Because of the variety and the thrill of building a story that you're proud of.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never take anything at face value. Remember that a true story is something that you're going to find yourself--it won't be handed to you.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime via email. I don't answer my phone unless I recognize the number.

What's your favorite drink?

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That technology journalists are in it for the free gear. I have one phone and two cameras, all of which I paid for.
