bassistemagazine.com — Prince's rights holders have agreed to release a posthumous Minneapolis Kid album on July 30. Recorded in 2010, then canceled to make way for 20Ten, the 12-track opus entitled Welcome 2 America is presented as "a powerful stance that illustrates Prince's questions, his hopes, his vision of a changing society, announcing the beginnings of an era of political divisions, disinformation and a renewed fight for racial justice. Besides the guitar, keyboards, and vocals parts of Prince, you will recognize Chris Coleman (drums), Morris Hayes (keyboards, percussion), Liv Warfield, Shelby J. and Elisa Fiorillo (vocals) and bassist Tal Wilkenfeld. The latter, known for having played with Chick Corea, Jeff Beck or Herbie Hancock among others, shares her joy on Facebook: “I am relieved to no longer have to keep this secret. I think there are some of Prince's best lyrics and his heartfelt words couldn't come at a better time." You can already hear the groove of his funky bass on the eponymous single available on all platforms. Perhaps the first album in a long series for the prolific star of whom we know that there are still hundreds of preciously preserved recordings.
