What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means doing the hard work, uncovering the truth in confusing situations, and informing readers about the world in an ethical way.

Why did you become a journalist?
An inherent desire to use my research and storytelling abilities to educate, inform, and improve the world around me.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
My high school didn't have a newspaper, weirdly and unfortunately.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I won an SPJ Excellence in Journalism award in 2020 for my work on a series covering minority-owned businesses during the pandemic.
When's the best time to pitch you?
In the morning -- the earlier, the better.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
My most recent assignment covering the emerging fashion industry in Detroit. Stay tuned -- the story will be out in January 2020!

Drinking coffee.

Lately I'm a big fan of Reason and CS Monitor, mainly for the fairness of their coverage -- I always feel like I'm getting the whole story.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That artsy women with impeccable eyeliner don't have the skills to cover the tech and business beats.
