As emergency and pediatric resident physicians, we have seen first-hand the decimation of pediatric emergency departments, inpatient units, and intensive care units (ICUs) because of the rise in viral illness among children, including seasonal influenza, respiratory syncytial virus infection (RSV), and COVID-19, together dubbed the “Tripledemic.” Recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospital Association pleaded with the federal government to declare a national emergency.
