The continued inability of the Association of Campus Journalists, OAU, and students to access the approved budget of the Great Ife Students’ Union has sparked growing concerns over transparency, accountability, and openness within student governance. For several months, members of ACJOAU have made repeated efforts to obtain the ratified budget of the Union without success, raising questions about accountability structures within both the Students’ Union.

In a dimly lit room inside a female hostel at the University of Ibadan, a final-year student prepares a simple meal. She pours garri into a bowl, adds water, and sits down to eat exhausted from juggling her project defense, tests, and daily academic demands. What she does not see is what had happened hours earlier: a rat had scurried across the cupboard where the garri was stored. “Since I was born in Nigeria, I have never experienced a consistent 24-hour power supply.” For Emmanuel Aanuoluwapo Ajayi, a 500-level Electrical and Computer Engineering student at Kwara State University, that reality is not unusual, it is everyday life. Across Nigeria, unreliable electricity shapes how people study, work, and live. But for Emmanuel, it became more than a shared frustration. It became a problem to solve.
