Born and raised on the North Side of Chicago, Esther J. Cepeda started writing before her scribbles adequately conveyed her musings. She attended Lane Technical High School then went on to Southern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor's degree in journalism with minors in music and psychology.

By Esther Cepeda LAKE GENEVA, Wis.- This quaint downtown looked unremarkable on a quiet, rainy Monday morning: Businesses were starting to open, traffic was light. Clusters of teens, elders with dogs, and people carrying bundles of mail for the post office strolled down the street — almost none wearing protective masks over their nose and mouth. I broke quarantine to bear witness to Wisconsin’s “mixed” status.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a political columnist for a small, weekly newspaper.

Yes!!! And I have an antique one on my nightstand.

How is social media changing news?

It is making it difficult to correct misinformation. Once something is "out there" it's hard to get people to understand context, etc.
